had a magic show.. The
magician was Andrew
Forgrave from Owen
Sound who kept the
children entertained for
an hour. The children
thoroughly enjoyed it.
On Tuesday at
Egmondville we went to
another park and had our
lunch, after which we had
a baseball game and our
superstars competition.

Last week (Aug. 4-8) all
of our playgrounds had
regular" activity days,
with. a number of games
and crafts.
The trip of the week
was to Point Farms near
Goderich for a day camp.
The children were en-
thusiastic helpers in ,the
preparation of "cam-
per's stew (ingredients
everything minus the
kitchen sink. Results -
great! )
Post -lunch and post-
hasvto, we made our way
to the beach where wind
and waves didn't stop any
of the kids from enjoying
their swim. The beach

of people converged on
the tiny village of
Dungannon recently to
help the village celebrate
its 125th birthday.
The hamlet of 280
people welcomed people
from throughout the
area, across Canada and
the United States and
even from Dungannon,
Ireland for the four day
reunion which got -un-
.derikay°ob August 1.
The weekend began
with the crowning of the
Queen of Dungannon and
Laurie Doherty of Port
Albert was crowned as
the birthday queen. The
19 -year-old daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Doherty was chosen over
19 other contestants.

day in -Elmira taking a
small group from
Vanastra and Goderich.
The children ran through
20 relay games. All
together at the play -day
there were 180 kids and 50
leaders. At the end the
winneti received an ice
cream bar while
everyone else received a
popsicle.
Thursday's pl"ayday
was held at the Varna
town hall due to bad
weather.
In case of rain or bad
weather in Varna on
Thursdays, playground
will be held at the Varna -
hall.

has ended. Perhaps
another scene or epilogue
would clarify these
frayed ends- but it is
unfortupe because it
reduces the production to
a pot-pourrl of one-liners.
'The acting was the
highlight of the evening.
At the outset, Jack Duffy,
in the lead role, appeared
somewhat static, but by
the second scene had
composed himself and
delivered a fine , per-
formance for the
remainder of the show,
— Rosemary Radcliffe,
who starred as Duffy's
girlfriend, played the
part with the exuberance
much required to offset
Duffy's cool role. / At
times, however, she
seemed detached from
her, surroundings as she
watched Duffy's per-
formance in awe:

called "Free At Last". It is an adult comedy by the
Canadian humourist Eric Nicol, and will be playing
at the Playhouse in Grand Bend until August 16.

August 15th and 16th is
Vanastra's annual
Country Fair, starting on
Friday night with a talent
showcase contest.
Children are welcome to
compete between 9 and 11
and all adults between 11
and 1. We are still looking
for more talent of any age
so come out and enjoy
yourself.
The Queen of the Fair
contest begins • at 7 p.m.
when last year's queen,
Pam Baker will be on
hand to crown the new
queen..
Saturday -morning will
see the tug of war and the
midget and pee wee boys
softball tournament
which still needs, more
teams, so please contact
Moira Robinson as soon
as possible. There will be
a trophy for the winners
and crest for all par-
ticipants. Entry fee is
only $1 per. participant.
All day Saturday there
will be games and rides
for the kids - bingo all
afternoon, food con-
cessions and other booths
and a parade at12p.m.
To finish off the
weekend there will be a
dance on Saturday night
to the music of Kadenza.
