Catharine Corbett, four year old daughter of Mr, and Mrs. Al Corbett who. "recently underwent surgery in ,,,University - Hospital, ,UniversityHospital, London following an accident, returned home on Friday. Mrs, Howie Wright, Matthew- and Laura of Cambridge visited with friends here last week. Miss Turner dies Miss Irene Turner passed away suddenly in St. Joseph's hospital, London on Thursday _-----August-7- F-orm-er.-ly DLRR. 1 Varna, she is survived by a brother Wilmer of RR 1, Varna, sister Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) Taylor of RR 2 Hensall. One brother predeceased her in 1931. The funeral service was held from Bonthron Funeral Home, Hensall- on Sunday August 10th with Rev. Stanley McDonald officiating. Interment was in Bayfield cemetery. Pallbearers were Keith- Stephenson, Robert Turner, Jack Coleman, Bill Consitt, David Turner and Ronald Coleman. Flowerbearers were Stewart Mustard, Phillip James, Jim Consitt. and Lowell Mount. Village notes Rev. _ Kenneth Knight conducted _.niorning worship in Carmel Presbyterian Church on Sunday morning. The subject of his sermon was "Repentance that is too late". Mrs. Blanche Dougall. presided at the organ. Recent visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Ross Corbett and family were Mr. and Mrs. Morris Taylor; Pam Taylor and Steven Donens of Kilworthy and Mr. and Mrs. Ross Brown of Newtonville, Ontario. Mr. and Mrs. Brian Campbell, Mrs. Mona fi t and goings in the village. Campbell and Mrs, Cora Wurm returned' .frog, a two week's motor trip where they visited with Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Wasson at. Parrsboro, Nova, Scotia. Mrs. Eric Luther returned from a two weeks'°'vaCation " with her son and daughter-in-law and family, Mr. and Mrs. Don Luther .at. St. John's Newfoundland and also visited with Mrs, Hazel Luther and relatives in Deer Lake and Cor- nerbrook. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Payne visited with Mrs. Emma Payne of Elmira on Sunday afternoon. ----United-Church- - closed Rev. Stanley C. McDonald conducted the morning service at Hensall United Church on Sunday August 10th with Miss Brenda Pepper at the 'piano. For a solo, Mrs, Harry Stuart sang, "Lord of The Dance" with the congregation joining in the chorus, and the . children's was on Worry. The sermon was taken by Lorne Thrower, who spoke on "Faith and Habits or Habits and Faith". Next Sunday the United Church will be closed and the congregation will join the Presbyterians at Carmel Church at 9 a.m. Ushers again were Jim Thrower, Michael McGregor, Tim Mann i and Bill Stebbins. Queensway news Rev. Stanley McDonald conducted the, worship service at the Queensway Nursing Home, Hensall last week, accompanied at the piano • by Mrs. Pepper. Visitors with Mrs. Wilds were Marie and Henry Wilds and the Dogan family; Wilfred and Ruth Schant visited Mrs. Kendrick and Mrs. Maxine Weiburg .and Mrs. Susan Purdy visited Leri Purdy and the women on first floor. Mr. and Mrs. Denroache visited Mrs, Mitchell, Chester Dunn,, John and. Iva Ridley visited Vera , Laramie Beatrice Taylor and Vera Johnston; visited Mrs. Volland and Roy and Mabel Alderson and Martha Smith visited Vivian Alderson. Joan Bettridge and Violet Bishop visited Irene Kalbfleisch; Florence and Walter Whilhelrn visited Edna Youn; and visiting with Russell Erratt were Frank and Mabel McClinchey, Campbell McKinley, Bruce and Grace McClinchey and Helen Taylor. Socials Gordon and Cheryl Baker, Scott and Heather of Ottawa were visitors with their Baker aunts and uncles in Hensall, Kippen, Varna ,,and Egmondville. Richard and Rose Rader were weekend visitors with their parents in Hensall. and Dashwood.,; Danny and Tarnrny'returned home to Kitchener with their parents after spending the week with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Alphonse Grenier, Hensall and Cousins. Robert -and D Terrie Luther, Grand Bend, Tammy Rader of Kitchener received the highest marks in her Grade I class for public speaking. She received a plaque for her award. Tammy is the oldest granddaughter of Mr. anrise Grenier, Hensall, also a granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elgin Rader, Dashwood. Her parents are Richard and Rose Rader, Kitchener. MR. AND MRS. ROBERT TURNER Mr, and Mrs, Robert :Turner, of Auburn will *celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on :august 16 with, a family. dinner and, a reception at Saltford Valley Hall following the dinner. Robert Borden Tur'er and Isobel Grace McWhinney • •were married on August 16, 1930 at Wesley Willis in Clinton. The. Rev. Hoag performed the ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. David Harman were the at- tendants. Mrs. Harman is Mrs. Turner's sister. For the first year and a half of married life, the Turners resided in Clinton. Then they lived in Exeter for two years.. They moved to the late Harry Sturdy farm in 1934 and resided there for ten years. They next moved to the farm of Bert Marsh and after that farm was sold they moved to Auburn in 1962. They built a new home on Queen St. in Auburn where they are living. Mr. Turner was then working for the Huron County Department of As well as building houses, local contractor Cale Doucette, shown coming out of the building, con- structs commercial buildigs as well. Mr. Doucette is halfway through putting up a major addition to the Clinton Bank of Montreal and hopes to have the structure completed in September. He comes from a family of nine and was burn in Hillsgreen, Ontario in 1903. Mrs, Turner was born. near Benmiller in 191 n to Mr, and Mrs: William McWhinney and comes from a family of four. Mr. and Mrs, Turner had a family of -six, three sons and three daughters. A , son, Ted, died in 1953, San, Ken, resides . in Strathroy and son, Barrie, is residing in Prince George, B.C. Daughter, Shirley, married Leonard Mann in 1978 and resides in Strathroy. The youngest daughter, Lynn, nurses in London, Ontario. A (laughter, Lois, died In 1931 ininfancy, The Turners also have' eight g ranchildren. and three great- grandchildren. Mr, Turner was superintendent of Ball's Cemetery .for 23 years and Mrs. Turner was caretaker of Knox United Church in Auburn for 10.- years 0:years and a ;mail carrier for RR 1 Auburn for 12 years. Mr. and Mrs. Turner are both mem- bers of Knox United Church, Auburn and Mrs. Turner is a member of the Auburn Women's Institute and Hor- ticultural Society. The story of the Good Samaritan given by Mr. Darrell was the sermon topic at the Sunday morning service at Huronview. Mrs. Elsie Henderson assisted at the organ. The choir sang the anthem, Only Shadows. On Tuesday afternoon, Summer Workshop in Ministries (S.W.I.M.) provided a program in the auditorium. In the evening, 15 residents went to the Clinton arena to view the Medicine Show due to the kind generosity , of a local merchant. There were many favorable com- ments afterwards con- cerning the show and all who attended agreed that theyenjoyedthe evening. While Special Care men took a van ride to Grand Bend, Ella Elder, Rossie Sholdice, Grace Peck, Mary McAllister, Doreen Coleman, Margaret Mitchell, Elsie Hen- derson, Mabel Garrow, Leah Currie ,and Bernice Glousher attended the tea and garden party_ at Mrs. Van Dammers on Wed- nesday afternoon. Assisted by Huronview volunteers, the Over 90 Club held a barbecue at noon on Wednesday. The Over 90 Club members ate in the auditorium and were entertained by Elsie Henderson at the piano and Cecil Skinner playing his violin. Mrs. Prouty held Bible School in the chapel on Thursday afternoon. _ All the _ barbe.cues are. over with at Huronview, however a barbecue is now being planned for all residents who especially like barbecued ham- burgers and hot dogs.
