Church news
There was no church
service in Holmesville
Sunday morning as Rev.
Oestreicher is enjoying a
holiday for the month of
August.
Last Thursday • the
Enterprising 'Seniors of
Goderich Township spent
the day in the Mall at
Goderich, selling their
tickets on the quilt to be
drawn for in December.
Tickets are available
from any senior.
Personals
Kelly Carter of
Goderich spent last week
with her grandparents,
Don and Isobel Harris.
Shelley Harris of
Clinton spent the
weekend with gramma
and grandpa Harris
(Isobel and Don) while
.mum and dad, Jennifer
and Nicole spent the
weekend in Midland,
Michigan.
Sailing trip...
• from page 10
the' daylight hours before
continuing, the 'F Stop'
almost ran aground,
touching bottom four or
five times. To complicate
matters at this juncture,'
they were almost hit by a
huge barge in the middle
of the channel, hence
creating a few tense
moments. _ .__ _.__
Now it was time for a
pleasant surprise, - when
they met up with Rob and
Janice McGuffln of
Bayfield who were also
entering New York
Harbour, sailing their
homemade craft.
Docked at Pier 59, they
spent three days in the
city as tourists, taking in
a Pirates vs. Mets -
baseball game to boot.
Our good old boys were
astounded at the heavy
traffic in the harbour, as
they noted destroyers,
frigates, Norwegian 'tall
ships' and fire boats to
name a few. Garbage
scows made frequent
trips, fully loaded . with
"raw crap” out into the
Atlantic where it was
then dumped.
Ocean -bound ' and
preparing for the eight-
day sail to Hilton Head,
they said, "...it was green
and impressive...". in
reference to the Statue of
Liberty which stands at
the entrance to New York
Harbour.. .
Out on the,Atlantic,
they chartecourse
towards SandyoFT ok,—
then on through Cite
Hatteras and Cape May, .
the graveyards of ships,
then to Hilton Head
Island.
At trip's end, both
agreed, "It was an ex-
citing trip for -two -people
with limited sailing ex-
perience}''
"Harrrk!" says I,
"would you do it again
mateys?"
Ken says, "...no, I liked
the scenery but it was too
hard on the tummy."
On the other hand,
Gary, who found 'sting of
the spray of the ocean'
exhilarating, says,
"...yes he would..."
No comment was
available from their
wives.
