Dungannon, lwant to say, is alright,
The dear old place is, niy.- delight.
And it isn't sliding down the, hill
Though grumblers say it, surely will.
Unrivalled spot tomuse and think,
And make demands on printer's ink,
Concocting simple easy ryhmes
Descriptive of the olden times.
Many, many years have slipped away
Since the first villager came to stay
Then the village it gradually grew
As the stage went daily through,
Discharging passengers and freight
Flourishing stores kept open late;
Two big hotels; aglow with light,
Were vocal far into the night,
With song lee-and-r-.ustic-dance-
Toned with a "Scrap or two perchance,
A jolly frollic place you bet,
For then., the village, it was "wet".
The boozers rallied round the can
At night to the hotels they ran;
Spending all their hard earned cash
And always doing something rash.
Yes, Dungannon in days of yore
Heard many a drunkard's roar
But for all that the village boomed
While whiskey was being consumed.
Oh, Dungannon her sons were grand;
Her daughters best in all the land!
For you know Dungannon's lovely girls
- Were then, as now, admired like pearls.
Time rolled on, years flew fast,

While villagers wane
The stage coach still, rattled past
g d, alas:! in vain,
For Dungannon to see a railway train
To banish the old Lucknow stage
Which had grown shabby with age
For a railroad then was required
But they waited - then grew tired.
The busy ones worked with all their might, ,
While the boozer boozed both day and night,
Dungannon was a wild place then
And contained some very wild men.

Those days are gone. Those scenes have fled;
No Dungannonite is seen with his nose all red.
The beer keg has gone - faded"'aivay;
Quite a contrast to the early day.
The beer wagon now avoids the place,'
Seldom the drunkard shows his face.
They all now , give it the "go-by";
For Dungannon-,- once so "wet" -is '-'dry"-.
But Local Option didn't make things slow;
Business is brisk and all's well you know.
A place, of placid..sweet repose,
What a treat 'twould be for those
Unnerved by the hustling city din,
Or wrecked on .bestial seas of sin!
The worried, fretted, restless man,
Dwindling existence to a span,
All whirling, furious and fast
Like leaves in a November blast;..
Come one, come •all, and live with us,
Away from all the din and fuss
And rest, and sleep, and happy be
In a place where you cannot spree!
For be it clearly understood
Dungannon at last is good.
