McIntosh and son Christopher - of London visited last weekend With Mrs, Frances Clark_ Miss • Marily. n ,Archambault attended the Sheep Focus held at Markhatn last weekend. She was among the 40 4-H club members who at- tended from all. over Ontario. Auburn, Michigan residents will be visiting Auburn, Ontario this weekend on Friday and Saturday along with the Auburn girls softball team. A reception is being planned in the community, hall and the girls play the Auburn, Ontario softball team at 8 p.m. on Friday. It will be a very busy weekend, as 14 teams are entered in the competition. Teams taking part include the• Clinton Housewive, Summerhill, .. Garb and Gear, Blyth Busters, Gardiner Superstars, Benmiller, West Wawanosh, Gold Diggers, Sailorettes, Dungannon, Goderich Elevators, Lucknow Noisy Ladies, Auburn, Michigan and Auburn, Ontario. The weekend is being sponsored by the Auburn and District Lion Club. It is hoped that there will be a g lod attendance at all events and that a hearty welcome will be given to the friends from Auburn, Michigan. WALKERBURN CLUB The Walkerburn. Club held its annual picnic recently at the home of Mr. and. Mrs. Ted Hunking. The sports committee was Mrs. Garth McClinchey and Mrs. Elliott Lapp. A candy ,scramble was held for -all the boys and girls 8 years and under. The wheelbarrow race for public school age children was won by Rodger Cunningham and Paul Spreight,• second - 'Mike Hakkers and Kenneth Penfound and third - Julie and Leona Cunningham; backward running race - first Rodger Cunningham, second - Julie Cun- ningham, third - Stephen Ball; balloon race - Stephen Ball and Mike Hakkers; teenage wheelbarrow race - Janice McClinchey and, Mark Vogl, and second - Debbie Cunningham and Nancy. Penfound; somersault race - Rodger. Cunningham and Stephen Ball; and balloom:.race tie between Jlie and Rodger Cunningham and Keith andHelen Lapp_ , The ladies' team won the clothespin race. Winners of the dice contest were Elliott Lapp, Leona Cun- ningham, Ted Hunking, Keith Lapp and Kenneth Penfound. i-nners of lad4e- calling their husbands to dinner were Mrs. Leonard Archambault and Mrs. Keith Lapp. Julie Cunningham guessed the correct amount of popcorn in a j ar. Garth McClinchey and Tom • Cunningham won the nail -driving contegt. e Ni`ancy. Penfound ,and Mrs. Tom Cunningham won the ladies' nail - driving contest. The children enjoyed a swim in the pool followed by a smorgasbord sup- per. It was announced that the next meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sep- tember 30 at 2 p.m. at Mrs. Garth McClinchey's home. Lunch committee will be Mrs. -Ron Gross and Mrs. Lloyd McClinchey. The program committee will be Mrs. Roy Daer and Mrs. Lloyd Penfound. CHILDREN'S DAY , Auburn Women's Institute held its annual Children's Day last Tuesday when- nearly 60 children, their mothers and members were present. President, Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock, opened •the meeting with •the Ode, • the Mary Stewart Collect. and Cl► Canada- with Mrs, Catherine Jackson at the piano. She welcomed all and, the convener of the program, Mrs. Leonard Archambault • with her assistants,. Mrs. John Stadelmann, Mrs. Gordon Powell and Mrs. George Mason, Two cartoons were sFiown by Mrs. Brian Hallam and then a program was given. A duet was sung by Lana and Leslie Lawrence accompanied on the—OEM-IV—their -th mother, Mrs. Fred Lawrence. A recitation in -French was gj.ven . by Dwight Caldwell.. A piano solo was played by Sandra de Veau and a reading was given by Anita Gross. She also played a piano solo. - Another duet was sung by Lana and Leslie Lawrence. Nicole, Leah and Sharia Richmond and Christine, Rhonda and' Jennifer Stadelmann sang several songs. Nicole also gave a poem and Christine and Leah gave a double recitation. Rhonda gave a poem, Easter. During the first car- toons, bags of popcorn were given to every child. A lunch 'of ice-cream cups, freshie and cookies were served to all'. A short business meeting *as held. The minutes were accepted as read by the secretary, Mrs. Robert Peck. She also gave the financial statement. . It was decided to again sponsor the fall 4-H club, Food for Friends. Mrs. Doug Chamney and Mrs. Donald Cartwright will be the leaders. New garbage -pails will be purchased for the hall and Mrs. Donald Haines. and Mrs. Kenneth McDougall were named to get there. The card report was given by Mrs. Gordon Chamney and the thank - you notes received were read: • The members decided to donate'/T 5 to the Association for ,,,the Mentally Retarded: - A reminder about the Clinton anniversary coming up in September when Mrs. FIorence Diamond of the Federated Women's Institute of Ontario and. president of New Hamburg will be the guest speaker. Other business was' discussed and a film on planting a planetarium was shown to the ladies. The . meeting. was opened' with the Call to Worship followed by the hymn, Zion's King Shall Reign Victorious. The devotional period was taken by Mrs. Roy Daer.' The, scripture lesson was Psalm 23 and the meditation was based on, "I shall not want", followed by prayer, The roll call was an- swered by a Bible verse containing the word, Shepherd. The Auburn Presbyterian Women's Missionary Society met last week at the home of. Mrs. Frances Clark. Bluevale builds new hall WINGHAM - The Bluevale Chamber of Commerce has decided that construction of a new community hall may be less _ .expensive... than. renovating the existing hall. Estimated cost of renovations has in- creased from $50,000 to near $70,000 'and the group feels that it may be more feasible to build a new'hall. If the Chamber of Commerce decided to build a new town --hall, it could choose one of three, types - frame, block or steel. yA frame building of similar size to the existing hall has been estimated at $50,000. Art Clark from. Maitland Engineering was asked to conduct a walk -around inspection of the hall to determine its structural soundness before a decision was made.
