Every week there are more and more women enjoying golf, the game of a lifetime! Last Monday, over 25 ladies were out for Ladies night with many new faces joining the crowd. On August 11 we are hosting the Mitchell ladies so keep that Monday night opeh. On Thursday night,. Rod Doig shot 36 and was paired with Clinton's Bill Harris with a 43 for a 79 total. The team was tied With the team of Cam Doig (33) and Marc Robinet (46) but the cards were cut in Rod and Bill's favour. The com- petition is close on Thursday's` and over 30 fellows were in the running. 'Don't forget to come out tonight and try for the leader board. -- On Saturday, the Country Club held its first Midsummer Madness Mixed Two -ball with 2.1 couipl,es attending. 'Payers drew partners from a hat and couples took turns hitting the same ball. McMillan and wife (Rod Doig and yours truly) fired a one over par 37 to take the "Divot" trophy. Popeye and Olive Oil (Bob Core and Connie Marion) won the most honest couple's prize. Longest drive went to Bill Walsh. After the hole play, everyone gathered in the clubhouse for refreshments and a delicious pot luck supper. Canterbury Country • Club in Sarnia hosted the •first day in the Home and Home Challenge Series. Seventeen Seaforth golfers took the trip to Canterbury to try and accumulate points to take the team championship. After the first round, the Canterbury has a 15 point lead, but on Saturday the 19th they're here and we have the "home ice," advantage so to speak ;S.. hang in their guys! Ten of our junior headed to Stratford Country Club on Monday for the first leg of our five tournament junior 'mini tour. None of the guys fared too well with Greg Core being the only ane in the prizes. Now`its time to practice for Goderich Sunset on July 30. ' Miss Hy River, an eight-year-old grey mare by River Water - Victoria Hyp whose only previous experience at the races was one qualifier• at London in -1975, won her third straight lifetime start at Goderich in the tenth race with Fred Sadler up for Newton Hayter of Parkhill. Second was Iron Lassie for owner Bert McBride of Goderich with Miss Krista Hal third for Charles Brindley of Goderich. The driver competition which began at Clinton on July 13 will continue at Goderich Raceway on --Thursday, July 24 with post -time at 7:45 p.m. Business briefs STORE SOLD The Home Hardware Store in Clinton is changing hands at the end of the month wen Noah Zeeman and his family retire after fiv _ years___ of operating the Albert Street bu iness.• John Balfour of Lindsay .has purchased the business and. brings several years of hardware experience, having,, worked with Canadian Tire and the Home Hardware central office. NEW PIZZA Pizza connoiseurs in Clinton and area will have another choice of places to buy pizzas following the opening last week of Pepis Pizzas on King Street in part of the former Wedge store. Operated by Harold White and Lorne Hum- phrey of Wingham, the store is part of a chain of pizzas stores that are headquartered in Kit- chener. Pepis joins the Pizza Train selling pizzas' and subs. Until recently, the Pizza Factory, which is closed and supposedly under new management also sold the,sarne merchandise. ++ SIDING OUTLET Also in the same block as the new pizza; store is Mathers Siding, operated by Mr. G. Mathers, who has been selling siding in the area for many years. The outlet has been open for since late spring. • +++ CHANGED LOCATIONS Gerry Holmes of Fairholme Dairy is happy with his new location on Irwin Street in part of the former piano fac- tory. The firm moved there last year from their crowed Albert Street location, which has since beensold to George Tesseres, who has since renovated the building and opened the Blue Fountain Restaurant. The new eatery just recently acquired its liquor licence and business is booming, Mr. Tesseres. + ++ NEW FIELD Next to the Fairholm Dairy offices and warehouse, Bill Fleming of Fleming Feed Millhas spend cGnsiderable time and • money levelling off and landscaping the two acre field. Mr. Fleming says the land could be used for a soccer field. + + + WESTERN. TRAILERS Thanks to a new agreement, horse trailers from Vanastra will now be sold in The Western provinces. Mike Runsall, general manager of Runsall Enterprises of Vanastra, which manufactures a range of horse trailers from singles to tandems, said the firmhas reached an agreemnt for TNT Machinery Company of Aldergrove, British £olurrrb -a -to-a-ssem-b le tra i 1 ers . The trailers parts wil be made in Vanastra and then shipped to B.0 for assembly. School may close GRAND BED T The Larnbton County Board of Education has formed a, study committee to look into the possibilities of closing Grand Bend Public School. The board has decided to combine Grand Bend' School with Bosanquet and Kinard Schools in a consolidated study. A school may be con - sides 'd for closing if the oceup'ancy rate falls below 60 per cent and according to figures presented by board superintendent Al Wells, Grand Bend School has an occupancy of 54.9 per cent.
