The Board did not give
the ' jViinister adequate
lead time before in-
troduction of special
legislation, as the
Legislature adjourned for
the summer recess about
the time the Minister
received the request.
However, the Minister
has assured the Board
that he will introduce the
special legislation
required early in the fall
session.
RAIL STUDY
The Ministry of Tran-
sportation and Com-
munications officials are
conducting the Ontario -
Bruce Railway Branch
Line ' Rationalization
Study together with CN
Rail and CP Rail, in
consultation with the
Canadian Transport
Com mission. •
The objective of the
study is to ensure that,an
economically viable rail
and inter -modal network
AS in place to serve the
present and anticipated.
future freight tran-
sportation needs of. the
communities and in-
dustries in the mid-
western Ontario -Bruce
Peninsula area.
This work is , being
undertaken in response to
applications. by CN and
CP to abandon the
trackage, and freight
service along the
Walkerton Subdivision
and Durham Spur and
anticipated application'
by both railways for the
abandonment of ad-
ditional lines in the area.
The study will make a
comprehensive
evaluation of those rail
lines which serve the
area including the CNR
branch lines from High
Park to Clinton Junction
and from Stratford to
Goderich and the CP Rail
Branch Line from Guelph
to Goderich.
The Ministry is taking a
prominent role in the
study to ensure that a
viable network is in place
to best suit the tran-
sportation needs of this
area of the Province,
once the fact finding
stage of the study is
complete. The Ministry
officials intend to hold
several informal public
meetings in the area.
This will enable the
Ministry to present the
findings of the study and
receive comments from
local interested parties
and municipal councils.

crashes plane
GODERICH - John
Hindmarsh,.a 62 -year-old
Goderich Township man,.
was taken to Guelph
General Hospital
recently -after he suffered
injuries when this antique
biplane crashed.
Mr. Hindmarsh was
reported to be in fair
condition following the
accident when his Tiger
Moth aircraft struck a
tree and landed near
Guelph. He suffered a
broken hip and ankle as
well as facial lacerations
when he crashed in the
field while attempting to
make 'an emergency
,landing.
Mr. Hindmarsh, a
veteran wartime flyer,
was one his way to Milton
to have work done on the
vintage, aircraft. The
Tiger Moth biplane was
tested for training during
WWII.

the specific perspective
of the Bruce Study.
