The 11 ain service will be followed by a potluck lunch. Rev. Scott and his family will be at Camp Menestung this week and he can be—reached by telephoning 524-0497. Barbara Bosman and Dean Lord sang two special numbers to the accompaniment by organist Louise McGregor. The dedication of the church steps carpet was made by Margaret Taylor from the Burns UCW in loving memory of Mrs. George Smith. The junior teachers were Kathy McDougall and 'Rosie • Johnston. Vacation Bible School There were more than 60 children registered to take advantage `of the Vacation Bible School from July 7 tQ_41-•-The teachers were Joan Shepherd, Joan Whyte, Nancy Fothergill, Carol Cartwright? Donna Shaddick, Ann Adams, Edith Taylor, Margaret. Wright, Laurel Duizer, Shirley Scott, Florence Cartwright, Diana Shobrook, Marjorie Duizer and Harriett Shillinglaw. The music was supplied by Louise McGregor. On Friday morning parents and friends viewed the crafts and then the children presented a program. Mrs. Scott began by playing music on her guitar. Each class sang and one class of boys put on a skit. •Rev. Scott introduced the leaders and presented each with a thank you diploma and everyone enjoyed refreshments Supplied by the Berean Unit of the UCW throughout the week. Neighborly news Mr. and Mrs. Orville Newby spent a couple of days last week in New Liskeard, Joh Cartwright is spending the week at Camp MVlenestung. Visiting ° on Saturday with Mr. and Mrs, Clare McDougall, Amber and Sarah. were, Clare's parents Mr. and Mrs. Leonard McDougall of Rockwood. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Thompson, John and Linda Lawrie attend a Blue Jay baseball game in Toronto last Thursday night. Ber-ean.Unit The Berean Unit of the, UCW met on July 8 at the home of Mrs. Margaret ,Whyte. Leader Helen Lawson opened the meeting with. a reading and the minutes were read by Dora Shobbrook. A thank - you note was. received from Tri Duizer as well as a letter from the group's foster child. Laura Lyon gave the treasurer's report and 16 members and 10 mem- bers answered the roll call by naming a city in Japan. Happy Birthday Was —sung—for—Hattie—Wm , Shirley Scott, ` Vi Burns and Mary Longman and everyone signed a get well card for Ida Durnin who is a patient in Clinton hospital. Edythe Bea,come reported that the general UCW delegates who went to the Si. Thomas school for women were Joan Whyte and Marjorie , Duizer. The UCw will be catering to the Blyth Summer Fesitval "lun- cheon on July 10 and will served dinner to theatre • goers on July 19. Addie Hunking reported for the congregational life and work annual family outdoor service and picnic to be held on July 20 at Camp Menesetung. Mrs. Whyte and Mrs. Wood led in the program with readings and Mrs. Wood played the piano. The Whyte children entertained with piano numbers_ by Brian and- Crystal. ndCrystal. David played the guitar and Murray gave a reading. Mrs. Wood spoke about, the boat people and in- troduced her daughter, Lois Andrews, a member of -the , Northjea United Chruch in Toronto, where they are sponsoring a family from Vietnam. Their church pledged $9,000 to the young family - iii February 1979 and they give them -$90 a week to - live ' on. The 24 -year-old father is an electrician and his 21 -year-old wife a 1, 1 e has a year in nurse's, training. WI Agriculture meeting The WI Agriculture meeting was held on July 9 and president Alice Buchanan thanked everyone who helped with the graduation banquet and gave a reading. June . th rgi-1-1 gave the secretarial report and the roll call was answered by 17 members. The WI award in home economics was won by Arlene Vanderlie and Bill Jewitt won the industrial award. Margaret An.der°son reported on the July 15 bus trip and for the August 12 meeting the 'ladies will meet at the hall at 11:10 am and go to ARC Industries for lunch, a tour and a meeting. Mrs. Taylor introduced Susan Zeilman of Zurich, who is this year's Dairy Princess. She showed a film on milking methods from -the 1800's up to the present day. She also showed how wood pulp can be used to make a coating which is used in cl-:•-mak';ring----milko --cartons, Susan was thanked by More nce.Cartwright . Lunch was served by Mrs. Wood, Mrs, Andeson and Doreen Carter. n, - MORE Neighborly news LFR Mr. and Mrs, Ted Fothergill attended the funeral of her cousin Donald Dey at Listowel on Monday. Nancy Andrews of Toronto and Doug Wood of Wingham spent the past week with their grandparents— Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Wood.
