Slo•-pitch tourney held
This past weekend the
Vanastra and District
Lions Club hosted their'
first annual slo-pitch
tournament. The games
started on Friday night
and carried on all day
Saturday.
Their was a dance on
Saturday night for the
teams, where everyone
relaxed and danced to the
music of the Country
Companions.
Sunday was an exciting
day as the finals were
played. In the A. division
`Drumbo' came away
with the trophy but a good
fight was put up by
Auburn. In- the B. division
Ingersoll won the trophy
against Seaforth.
The entertainment
began at 3 p.m. when the
C.F.P.L. Super Stars
played the Vanastra
Lions All -Stars. The
game began with the
blessing of the bases.
The.Va stra team had
some r al celebrities
playin for them. Dolly
Parton, alias Ken
McLean, was out in full
form but she .seemed a
little confused as to what
game she was playing.
She had both a football
helmet and hockey stick.
Ronald McDonald and
the Hamburglar (Steve
Watch and . Charlie
Dowell) came out to help.
Its funny Ronald seems to
have lost weight since I
last saw him and the last
time the Hamburglar was
convicted they must have
put him on the rack he
seems to be a few inches
taller.
Chief Broken Bat of the
McLaughlin tribe was
also there and did a dance
Bombers beat
Last Wednesday night,
the .Tuckersmith Bom-
bers were beat in their
first game as they put tip
a good fight but the
Holmesville team were
just a little too good.
Ladies: sign up to play
slo-pitch as we don't want
to be out -done by the
men. Give me a call at
482-3080 if you are in-
terested.
The Tucllersmith Bears
lost their first game on
Tuesday night against
Holmesville, 21-33. So far,
they still haven't broken
their record of no wins.
But the boys and coaches
are very confident that
they will soon be bringing
in the victories.
Runs out
of road
EXETER - A Goderich
man sustained miner
injuries and his car`
received 86,500 in
damages when it slid
over the bank of a road
under reapir in • Usborne
Township.
Injured was David
Rawling, who drove
around a barricade to
mark the construction
work on a township
sideroad and then
couldn't get stopped when
the roadway ended. The
vehicle landed on its roof
after sliding down the
embankment.
on home plate and
managed to bring rain
which was better than our
pitcher Stewart McLean
got. I guarantee he'l'l
never throw spit balls
again. A cream pie in the
face isn't worth it.
We are- still trying to
figure out what team the
Umpires Rick Fortune
and Frank Goulding were
for as they seemed to
make a few bad calls.
Rick held a runner while
the catcher tagged him
out. He gave a girl from
,C.F.P.L. some help by
throwing the ball into the
field giving her a home
run. But he got his in the
form of water bombs, and
was a little damp by the
end of the game.
After only a few innings
of, play the Vanastra
Lions won the game by a
score of 11 to 10. The
C.F.P.L. Super Stars
passed' out bumper
stickers before they left.
During the course of
the weekend the Lioness
ladies were kept busy
serving , breakfast
Saturday and Sunday
morning and running a
food booth for the
remainder of the
