United Church Women met for .a brief business session in the parlor of the church, under the leadership of the leader, ' Gertrude Peagan on 'Tuesday af- ternoon, f..ternoon, June 3 at 1 p,in prior to departure for Brucefield Church, A thank -you note was receive dfrom Wm. Marshall, secretary, of the Board of Stewards thanking the ladies of the United Church Women for the gift of $2,000 toward the special projects fund of the church. It was announced that a bus will be leaving Victoria ar , ea or . Qn the morning of August 12 at 7 a.m. ' or from Brucefield at 7:05 a.ri'i. to transport UCW members wishing to attend the ses stlions on visitors' day at Alma College school for United Church Women. Anyone wishing to attend please. contact Marion Powell by June 2$. The September 2 meeting will take the form of a bus trip to "Cedar Glen Conference Centre" near Toronto and to `tthe Sharon Temple of Peace", nearby. DE honor members At the June meeting of the Sarah Hale Chapter, IODE, past regents Dorelene Flowers and Margaret Allen were presented with past regent's pins and bars. The present regent, Florence Corrie, in making. the presentation, expressed the ap- preciation of chapter members for the time and work freely given to IODE by these, past regents. Preceding the meeting a pot -luck supper was held at the home of Shirley. Hargreaves in Brucefield:` The services secretary, Lina Cochrane, read a letter and showed snapshots sent from the chapter's Ojibway contact in Ogoki, Annie Achneepineskum, or Annie Ach. as she signs herslef. Ogoki is an Indian settlement of around 300 people, about 200 smiles west of James Bay. The people live by winter trapping, leaving Ogoki in September and returning to Ogoki for Christmas.,After Christmas theleave again, to return by March or April. Everyone goes except the old people who Grand tour for newlyweds Wheeler -Cormier Bill Wheeler and Angela Cormier were united in marraige at St. Andrew's United Church in Bayfield on Saturday, June7, 1980at4p.m. The bride is the daughter of Emanuel and Marie Cormier, Moncton, New Brunswick and the groom is the son of Jack and Betty Wheeler of "044 Kir Nak 1.‘ 44004 Bayfield. The maid of honor, Valerie Merner carried two pink roses and the bride carried two yellow roses. Flowergirl , was Jennifer Triebner. The groom was at- tended by best man Bab Walker. The United Church was decorated with garden flowers by Mrs. Lula ,1' ' '4 Scotchmer for the ceremony. On leaving the church, the • newly-weds found Billy Campbell waiting with his tractor and "poop spreader" to take them on a grand tour of the village. The Sarah Hale Chapter attempts to aid the people in Ogoki by supplying clothing, blankets, or any other need that Annie mentions in her letters. A large bale was sent in May, and the Chapter is collecting items for the bale to be sent in the fall. The regent, `Florence Corrie, announced that the fall conference will be held in Peterborough. Mr. and Mrs. Don Switzer, also of Clinton, are the–parents of the groom. , The bride chose a gown of satin with a high waist and princess lines, a lace yoke, and lace covered wedding band collar. The slim fitted sleeves had a ruffle of , lace at the wrists. A matching ruffle. of lace outlined the yoke. She wore a bridal . hat trimmed with: lace' ap; pliques, seed pearls and a single satin rose. Veiling. surrounding the brim formed a waist length fall. Mrs. Charlene Franken and Mrs. Nancy Atkinson were the bridesmaids... - They wore matching gowns in mint green, and their flowers ' were nosegays of white and yellow daisies, mauve miniature carnations and baby's breath.
