(News -Record photo) It's vacation time mothers .e - $y this time next week, school will be out for what,, seems like the longest two months of the year in the eyes of a mother. r This is the time of year when mothers say goodbye to the quiet days and trade them in for the bandages, insect repellent and numerous trips to the emergency room at the nearest hospital where junior's stitched up and put back together after all his screaming had both you and himself convinced he was- going to bleed to death. The evenings of bed- time at 8:30" are gone to . the tune of "It's holidays mom, why should we go - to bed when the sun'sstill out?" Our grocery list for the next two_months should include 50 packages of Kool Aid and enough cookies to supply a whole neighborhood for a week. Plus a trip to the bank to change your life savings into quarters for the trips to the swimmingpool and Popsicles. Them -you 'spend your evenings onbaseball diamonds, •. soccer fields and holding your breath while your young one barrels up and down the street on his skateboard that Uncle Joe gave him Baseball schedules .set The ball schedules are all made up and the teams are shaping up well for all you interested baseball fans..Here isthe schedule of games our teams are playing home games;only: Midget boys, June 18 against Holmesville; June 27 against Benmiller; July 2, against Londesboro; July 30 against Ben - miller. Goderich; July 8 against Varna; July 29 School nears end Vanastra Public School is very busy with many activities for the end of the school year on. June 13. The Huron- County Dairy Princess, Susan Zielman showed a film and spoke to the children about dairy products. On ‘..June 16 was the family picnic. Senior citizens were invited for senior citizens week as well. School children, their families and teachers all enjoyed hot dogs and picnic lunches on the school lawn. Our choir and ukelele group per- formed. Grade 6 asked their puppets to perform at the Vanastra Playhouse theatre. Mr. Ken Dawson from Conestoga led a sing -song with his guitar and ball games, volleyball' games and more rounded out a most enjoyable evening. Friday, June 20 will be Carnival day and hot dog - sale day: Monday, June 23, the faithful members of our Junior Choir will travel to Grand Bend and Tuesday, June 24 is the Grade 6 graduation trip. Wednesday, June 25 will be awards day at the school and final dismissal for the summer. June 26 and June 27 the teachers will remain at the school for P.D. days. Bingo prizes won The first -share the wealth of $70 was split two ways between Debbie Riley of Kinburn and A. Beach of Goderich. The second share the wealth was also isplit between . Pat Shaw' of Blyth and Mrs. Powell of Goderich, each winning $36. The third share the wealth was won by E. Vanderburgh claiming the full $71. Squirt girls: July 15 against Varna. .• The squirt girls played _their first game on June 10 and they were beaten 43 to 8 but these girls had only two practices so they really did quite well and they'll do better the next time. Mrs. Hyde read a poem and --.-Mai --P-er -Campbell-read a short address and presented Mrs. Dougall with a gift. • Although taken by surprise, Mrs. Dougall made a reply expressing sincere thanks. A social hour was enjoyed by all. Mrs. `i Laird Mickle attended the christening of her granddaughter Jennifer Iileen Collins on Sunday, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Brian Collins, Waterloo; along with the other members of the Mickle and Collins families. There are 12 teams entered and the highlight will be on Sunday afternoon when the Vanastra Lions will play the CPL Super Stars. Come out and join in the fun - it's going to be a great weekend. WMS and Ladies' Aid The WMS of Carmel Presbyterian- Church held a business meeting on Monday evening with the president, Mrs. Hyde presiding and gave' a report of the presbyterial held in May in Goderich: The fall rally will be held on October 8th at 1:30 p.m. After the business session Mrs. Hyde read a poem . and the next meeting will be held September 8th at &p.m. Mrs. Al Hoggarth chairedthe meeting for the Ladies' Aid and read a poem and led in prayer. Th'e treasurer gave a report; ar d also the card convener. Mrs. Ruby Bell reported for the kitchen committee. It was decided to hold the annual bake sale and bazaar on November 1st at 3 p.m. with the Arnold Circle to be in charge of the tea tables. The next meeting will be on Sep- tember 8th following the W.M.S. meeting. The June meeting of Unit II of Hensall United Church Women was held in the parlor Monday evening, June 9th at, 8 p.m. when Mrs. Jean Hull conducted the meeting and the devotional was conducted by M,rs. Jean Wareing and dwelt on Prayer. Mrs. Joyce Pepper conducted the business concerning the March of Dimes, the Waterloo conference and the bike- a-thon and bake sale on Saturday for the Heart Fund. Leaders for Messengers and Explorers in the Fall are badly needed. Volunteers to clean the church kit- chen were to meet the next morning.
