have been entertaining
two gentlemen from Kuh-
mo, Finland, Mr. Erkki
Tuominen and Mr. Tapio
Saastamoinen. The two
had returned from a bear
hunting expedition in
northern Ontario.

Mrs. Cliff Holland was
a guest at the Con-
vocation of the University
of Western Ontario on
Saturday; June 14. Her
grandson graduated with
a Master of Science
degree. He is presently
employed by the
Township of Bosanquet,
Lambton County.
Following the con-
vocation a reception was
held honouring the new
Alumni in the University
Cmirnunity Centre.

More than 3,750
students from University
Qf Western Ontario
received degrees at the
recent convocation and it
is interesting to learn that
out of that number there
were nearly 70 part-time
students including 3 who
attained their B.A.
degree by taking courses
at the University's ex-
tension centre in Clinton:
these were Sheila
Beatrice Fink, Bennett
. Street, Goderich;
Patricia Sharon Hully,
Blyth; and Glena Doreen
Tripp, -St. Lawrence
Avenue, Huron Park.
While commenting on
these graduates,
Thomas N.•Guinsburg;
Dean of the Faculty of
Part -Time and con-
tinuing. Education said:
"They are the tinsung
' heroes and heroiti'es of
our educational program.
Each of them took an
unconventional pathto a
-degree that required
them to balance career,
family and educational
commitments. Yet many
ended up with truly
outstanding records of
achievement which is a
source of great pride to
th,e University."

volunteer hours was
recorded - the most ever
put in by these young

Active woman dies
Elizabeth Scott .
Less than a month after
celebrating her 100th
birthday, Mrs. Elizabeth
M. Scott died in
University Hospital in
London on June 17.
The active lady was
honored at a special
birthday celebration with
fellow members of the
Over 50 Club, a ladies
social group in Clinton
and was also remetn-

Mrs. Scott lived on the
family farm and latter :
married Robert Scott and •
the couple continued to.
farm on concession 11 in
Hullett. They had no
children and a few years
ago Mrs. Scott moved to
Huronview.
Mrs. Scott was the
oldest of five and is
survived by a brother
Robert of Clinton and a
sister Mrs. ' W.R.
(Florence) Nimms of
Toronto. She is also
survived by four nieces
and one nephew and is
predeceased by three
brothers, her husband
and parents.
A private family
funeral was held at 'the
Ball Funeral I4ome in
Clinton on June 14 with
Rev. T.A. Duke of-
ficiating. Mrs. Scott was
laid to rest in her home
township at Burn's
Cemetery.
