Great loss_
Dear Editor:
The following letter is a
copy of a plea send to
John Cochrane, director
of the Huron County.
Board of Education,
Dear Mx, Cochrane:
As a student I, as well
as my classmates, feel
that the cutbacks in some
of our subjects is a great
loss. For example,
English 300, English 551,
and C.B.P., all could be
saved if we had sufficient
funds to keep a few extra
teachers on staff, could
they not?
If you disagree with
raising taxes in Clinton,
could we not find other
ways qd keep these
subjects. '. Some of the
teachers being released
are qualified to teach the

very subjects we are 1
losing, and can teach I.
well! 1
Just as a suggestion, 1
could we not have fund-
raising to pay a few.
teachers, even part-time,
to teach these few, ,but
important classes?
How r can you justify
hiring, for the board
office, a "Personnel
relations administrator"
halfway through the
present school year, and
yet dehire teachers in the
school? Who benefits the
students most? Where is -
the taxpayers money
supposed to go? Money
should and must be spent
in the classroom, for the
students!
The biggest problem
the students face is not
changing classes, but
changing to other un-
desired subjects. They
are left with no other
choice.
If I have to. take a
subject in which I am not
interested, my marks in
that subject will un-
doubtedly be low.
Subjects that seem to
be threatened due to lack
of enrolment by students
such as History and Latin
may be excellent step-
ping stones in education,
but it is ,the typing,
shorthand and technical
subjects that will see our
way to future, jobs. To
cutback on these areas is
NOT the solution.
I am trying to be un-
derstanding. I don't feel
this letter is unfair. I just
want a more satisfying
answer to this situation CP
and so do my classmates.
Would you please
discuss this problem with
your • collegues once
again? Would you be able
to reach a compromise?
Will you even rhake an
effort to respond to this
most important plea for
justice for the students, -
the work force of
tomorrow - your future
Canada? What happens
to us now will most
definitely affect you
tomorrow.
Yours truly,
Concerned Students,
Clinton.
Clinton 4-H
The first meeting of
Clinton 1I, 441 was held at
the home of fader Julie
Taylor. She gave the club
books -and members tried
to think of a name for the
club.
They talked about
camping, hiking and
some places they could go
for this. Then they
started the fitness tests.
At the close of the
meeting Julie served
lemonade, cookies, and
tarts. Everyone thanked
Julie for having the
meeting at her house and
the next meeting will be
• held at Barb Forbes' our
assistant leader. * b;
