The champion for tyke boys. Colin Thomas and the runner up Kennie McIlveen. In „the tyke girls , divi-siGn, -the- champion thechampion was Shelly Bonte-Gelock and runner up was Kathy Lou. In midget boys, Ronnie Davis was champion and Billy Joe -Hoy was runner up while in midget girls, Heather Brownridge was champion, and 'Lisa Belair runner up. In junior intermediate, Samantha Cormier was champion and Christa' Lehnen was runner up. In intermediate boys Alan~, Bonte Gelok champion and James Robson runner up. Cub & scout camporee This weekend our Cubs and Scouts went to Benmiller for the annual camporee. They had to hurry up and get their tents up before the rain started on Friday night. � Despite to .rant .and cold* the `boys all seemed to enjoy themselves, The Scouts made 4a special "presentation of a trophy to their retiring Scoutmaster Dave Dunsmorery, ,To quote the acting Scoutmaster Gerald Robinson, "We hoped It would touch his heart and he would come hack next Year." Our hopes for a speedy recovery goes out to Paul 'Handy who was unable to attend camp because of'a fall last week, which resulted in a very badly broken arm. Re is recuperating well in Stratford hospital and hopes to be home soon. Baseball Our midget . team played a game against Holmesville this past Thursday tight and the Bears played Holmesville on Monday night. Both teams lost their games, but I'm sure they'll win their next game. ' If anyone has been wondering what the holes and piles of dirt and cement blocks are doing at the rec. centre, our Vanastra Lions ,are building bleachers ,at the ball diamond in preparation for their gigantic slo-pitch tour- nament on June 21st, 22nd and 23rd. Clinton council notes Clinton Council, recommended seven land severances to the com- mittee of adjustment at their May 20 meeting. Council okayed an appliction from Alf Mathers, to sever a small piece of land •behind Beattie's Furniture Store and, approval was given to Ed Willson for • the severance of part of lot 24 on the Huron non R oad, on the west side of Albert Street. Council recommended theseverance sever ace ofrt 1 P a of lot 0 on the Bayfield road for Keith Connolly and Donald Gerrits and ap- proval was also given by council to sever five,other parts of, lot 1 for Mr. Connolly. + + + Council learned that the ministry of housing will be holding the official opening on the King Street senior citizen apartments in Clinton on June 27 at -11 am. A lunch will follow. + + + Approval was given to the Clinton Kinsmen's application to the Liquor Licencing Board of Ontario, giving the Kinsmen permission to set up a beer garden at the Clinton Spring Fair. Money from the garden sales will go to the fair board to help them pay off debts. + + + Council will be making an application to the pp ministryof tran- sportation and com- munication for an ad- ditional subsidy of $15,227 to help with street repairs and reconstruction. + + + Steve Roseniund of Clinton has been hired for the summer to work with the town's public works department. Orange Lodge helps Vanstra building fund Clinton Murphy Loyal Orange Lodge donates. $20 to Tuckersm ith Building Fund to help with the new addition at the Vanastra Recreation Centre. The Orange walk will be held in Galt on Saturday, July 5th, South Huron are planning on taking a bus. Councillor Archibald said he disagreed with council's cost cutting attempts pts and "After After ' thinking about it, I must agree that we should do- this planting befbre the e town turns into a desert." Mayor Harold Lobb replied, "The -taxes will be up quite high this year. I f people_ Ott -them _ _ higher, that's fine. t have nothing against planting trees but I was looking at it financially. I realize we need trees but we're not a desert yet. Drag strip in Lucknow LUCKNOW - Residents and councillors in Lucknow are concerned that one of the village streets is turning into a drag strip. At their recent meeting council heard complaints about -',the .motorcycles and trailbikes creating excess noise and per- forming dangerous stunts on the village streets. According to Councillor Russell Whitby, bikers are using one street as a drag strip and they pull wheel stands and drive down the street four abreast, disregarding stop signs. Other councillors said they have received complaints from town residents about lawns being ripped up by bikers trespassing and someone on a bike tore across the bowling greens. Councillor Ab Murray said that the bikes are coming into the village from the country but said all the village people can do is to hope that the OPP are around to lay charges when the bikes are performing.
