Kathy, her mother Joanne Lyon, grand- mothers Louisa Lyon and Grace Easom were escorted to honored seats. Gay Datema welcomed all and each guest introduced herself. There were 49 guests. present, including 13th concession neighbors, former neighbors, and • relatives-. - Judy Datema con- ducted two contests •whose s winners were Marilyn' Archambault, Dorothy Powell and Edyth Beacon. Susan Wilts addressed Kathy and gifts were presented by Deanna Lyon, Annette Vincent, Debbie and Linda Cun- ningham. A hat of bows was made by Cheryl Lyon and Diana Shobbrook. Kathy thanked everyone for all the gifts and gave special thanks to the hostesses. She invited all to 'Open House' at her mother's home on June 14. _United news The Reverend Stewart Miner was guest speaker while Rev. Scottcon- ducted the anniversary service at Trinity Ash- field United Church on Sunday. ' Greeters were Margaret Taylor and Lorne Hunking, and performing ushering duties were Shelley Westerhout, Barbara Carter, Sally Pollard and Diane Bromley. The junior choir was led by Barbara Bromley and Rev. Miner's message was, God of the Living. Next Sunday, .there will be a sacrament service. There was a pod at- tendance returning for a pot luck supper spon- sored by the congregational work and life committee on Sunday evening for the family service at Vanastra. Prizes were given to the first person in the water; youth, Larry Hoggart, adult, Florence Cartwright; last to get •wet, 'Billy Jim Scott and Ken Scott. Elizabeth Lawson sat in the lucky chair. Many 'thanks goes to Jean Scott and Mary Longman -for kitchen help. • • AUBURN the C Eleanor Bradnock, editor advocate ENTERTAIN MANOR ° ' RESIDENTS A group of Auburn •residents entertained the residents at Maitland Manor" in Goderich last Wednesday evening at the May birthday party. The program was opened with a sing -song led by Rick Hawley. Solos were sung by Amy Hawley and Mrs. Emmerson Rodger. A mouth -organ and autoharp duet was played by Ross Robinson and Mrs. Jack Walker. Piano instrumentals were played by Mrs. Bud Chamney, Mrs. Rick Hawley and Miss Beth Hawley. Guitar and ukelele duets were played by Lorie and Stephen Millian accompanied on the piano by their mother, Mrs. Barry Millian. Duets were sung by Amy and Beth Hawley and Mrs. Emmerson Rodger and Mrs. Tom Jardin. Violin selections were played by Oliver Anderson accompanied by Mrs. Kenneth McDougall. • FORMER AREA MAN RECOGNIZED Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Anderson have received word that their cousin Donald Mallory of Vulcan, Alberta has been recognized for his .composing of music. His mother was the former Rena Patterson born on the third line of East Wawatiosh just east of Auburn. Donald lived for several years with the late Mr. and Mrs. William Anderson and attended S.S. No. 16 when he lived with his uncle and aunt. Coming from a musical family, Donald has been expressing himself in music for over 15 years and has over 900 com- positions. Owner of the Kirkcaldy General Store, he states that music has become part of his life and he has been contacted by a 111 11..111 publisher and already has had one selection played on C.B.C. television. One of his recent compositions was sung by the choir at his church in Champion, Alberta. The eleven members of the Cham- pion United Church choir were very pleased to be singing an anthem compbsed by a member of their congregation. Paul Ross, lawyer from .Seaforth, was guest speaker and spoke on the theme, "The Rights of Women", at the May meeting of the Auburn Women's Institute ,He was in- troduced by Mrs. Bud Chamney, A short message on 1980 -The Year of the W.I., was given, followed by the m inutes by the secretary, Mrs. Robert Peck.
