Community On a"recent trip- to the laundromat Mrs. Esther Handy discovered a ,way to save money while drying her clothes. When her machine stopped she found her laundryto be still damp so believing the next dryer to be hers she tossed the damp things in. A very embarrassing situation when the real owner of the laundry came in looking for his clothes. Due to the retirement of Esther Handy from this column, I will be the only one writing the news. It will be extra hard to -fill the spare and- I will miss having Esther working with Ine. y� Amer Lodge news The meeting of Amber Rebekah Lodge was held on Wednesday evening with Noble Grand' Mrs. Hazel Corbett presiding assisted by Vice -Grand Mrs. E. News from Kippen by Rena Caldwell Mr. and Mrs. Harold Jones visited with Mr. and Mrs. Ken Jones and family in Hillier, Ont. over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Gackstetter, Guelph were recent visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Jones. Mr. and Mrs. Doug McGregor visited recently in Ottawa. Kippen East Women's Institute met in Hensall United Church May, 21 with the 4-H Club girls and their " leaders. Dessert was served by Mrs. Campbell Eyre and the committee in charge. Mrs. Alex McGregor chaired the program and gave a poem. The 4th Club girls answered the roll call bytelling what the last cub meant to them and by showing the macrame they had completed. The motto, "Attitudes of People" was given by Mrs. Harry Caldwell. Gifts were presented to Eileen Connolly who achieved her Provincial Honors with 12 clubs. Completed and Debbi Denys who achieved advanced Honours with 18 clubs completed. Mrs. Stewart Pepper presented gifts to the Club leaders. Mrs. Laird Finlayson; Mrs. Lloyd Cooper, Mrs. M. Con- nolly, Mrs. Stewart Wilson and Mrs. A. Gibson. President Mrs. Drummon chaired the business and gifts of $25 each were given to four charities. Plans were made for a Bake Sale and Mrs. Wni. Bell gave courtesy remarks. Mrs. Hugh Alderdice, Meaford, visited a few days with relatives in the area. Mrs. Margaret Hut- chison, St. Thomas and Mrs. Eva Smith, Ridgetown visited with Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Mellis. Mrs. Ken McLeod, Parkhill, called on WI. Mellis on Saturday last. - Mr. and Mrs. Gary Cooper and Robbie John, A Detroit, visited with Mr. and Mrs. Vivan Cooper. Rochus Faber, who has spent some time in Florida, has returned home. Mr. Eddie Taylor, Stratford, called on old friends in the village this— week. Don and Yvonne Reynolds celebrated their .30th wedding an- niversary May 22. Bruce Anderson hit 20; Grant McGregor, Rick Welsh each shot 15 targets, Centennial girls model fashion A fashion show was held at Huron Centennial School on Friday afternoon. Fashions for all occasions were evidentas each girl modelled her own special creation. Versatile skirts; smart dresses, active sportswear, and cozy sleepwear fashions -sewn by the girls in their Home Economics Class,were combined with complementary accessories. Macrame plant hangers and other craft items which have been made during the year were effectively displayed to create a spring-like atmosphere. Mothers and friends enjoyed seeing the results -of the skills learned with the guidance of Mrs. Mothers in their Home Economics classes. Each Friday morning the students are thrilled by a visit from Ken Dawson, an English teacher at the adjoining Conestoga College. Mr. Dawson and the students enjoy a half hour in song each week: For the students, it's a break in their day and Mr, Dawson, a former -elementary school teacher, says he can keep in !contact with young people this way.
