Everyone knows of the
Shriners Hospitals for
Crippled Children, The
first one was opened at
Shreyeport, Louisiana in .
1922, followed by • many
moreand pow including'
'three burn centres: In
addition,. the Shriners
give much more money to
establish and maintain
hospitals - many help
transport patients, act as
surrogate parents to
hospitalized children
whose families cannot be
o
there, and lend volunteer
tixne Q eke- .ure.. the
world of treatment is also
—41. place of joy, friendship
and variety.
To compliment the
ceremonial of the
Bluewater Shrine Club a
comprehensive souvenir
edition has been prepared
covering the work and
history of the Shriners
and this Club in par-
ticular. Copies of this
publication are available
in Clinton from the News -
Record Office, from any
Shriner and other outlets
around the town.

Professor Harry Shaw,
formerly of Dartmouth
College, New Hampshire,
was interred in Clinton
Cemetery on Saturday,
May 24, 1980.
The professor was the
only son of the late Dr.
Shaw beloved doctor in
D,A' '* MA,Y 29,1980;

Clinton for over 50 years.
He is survived by his
sister, Mrs ' Harold, Kilty
(Madelon) and several
nieces and nephews..

Princess Street West has
returned from Belleville..
Illinois where she Was
visiting .her sister, Mrs.
•Nora Wilson for the past
five weeks.

Len Theedom• has
returned from a one-week
visit with his mother in
Nanaimo, B.C. and Isabel
is back from visiting
daughter Sheila and
husband Roger Southin,
children Brian and Nancy
in St. John's Newfoun-
dland for the past two
weeks.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Cummings of Mary
Street flew down for a
week's vacation with
their son and his wife,
Mr. and Mrs. Ken
Cummings and three
daughters at Virnont
Laval, Quebec. While in
Quebec they attended an
Expos -Atlanta Braves
ball game in the Olympic
Stadium in Montreal.

He recently answered an
article on "soldering"
which he had read about
in the Radio Electronics
magazine. His answer
appeared in the June 1980
issue and reads (quote):

suggest another method
of cleaning solder -filled
PC board holes. A large
darning needle from the
local variety store will do
the trick. Simply heat the
solder and stick the
needle through. Only
rarely will the solder
stick to the needle and
even then a little heat will

of us know, are those
eager young girls in their
pink and white striped
uniforms. Right now their
co-ordinator, Mrs. Barb
Hicks is looking for new
members with whom she
can--- fami-liarize. - the.

tember. If there. are any
girls interested who are
14 or who will be turning
14 by the fall they may
pick up applications at
CHSS'or from Mrs. Hicks

new service which is
originating from the
,Huron Day Care Centre
for the Homebound • at
Huronview. This is to be
known as Telephone
Reassurance, and is
presently being set up by
three students at the
Summer Youth
Employment service,
Janet Bolton of Seaforth,
Cathy Picard and
Michelle Smith both of
Clinton. The Day Care
Centre will be having a
booth at the Clinton Fair
so visit and find out more

BEAVERS: The colony
walked to the Clinton
Public School playground
to enjoy an hour of out-
door fun. This will be the
last regular meeting for
the season.
Sunday, May 25, good
weather and good sports
combined to make die --
family barbecue a huge
success. Moms, dads,
brothers and sisters
joined the Beavers in
races, relay_.s;.and games
before hot dogs and
Freshie were served by
the leader chefs,
Hawkeye and Rusty.
Special thanks to Dorothy

Elliott for assisting with
the cookout. Also, thanks
to Jack Spearin and the
Huron Fish and Game

facilities.

the "swimming up
ceremony which was
held Thursday night, May
22, With parents looking
on, Chris Hoggarth, Paul
Dinning, Jason Wilson,
Craig Caldwell, John -
Hoskin, Bradley Jewitt,
Dillon Fremlin and
Douglas Maguire were
introduced to Akela and
presented- with the Cub
scarf and woggle.
Following en-
tertainment by the Cub
choir and a short sing-
song, lunch was served.
Special thanks to Janet
Cameron and Linda
Jones for helping in the
kitchen.
Hospital
employee
retires
Frank Chase, a former
Goderich resident, was
presented with a silver
tray on May -22 to mark
his retirement from the
Stratford General
Hospital after 24 years of
employment there.
” Mr. Chase, of Stratford,
began working at the
_hospital in 1955 after
spending 10 years at
Goderich's Alexandra
Marine and General
Hospital.
The Port Colborne
native and WWII veteran
worked in physiotherapy
and occupational therapy
departments at the
Stratford hospital before
retiring at age 60 this
April.
Mr. Chase also worked
with the late Dr. John
Penistan on post-
mortems and later
transferred to the am-
bulance service, where
he worked from 1968 to
1977.
