Fly Your Own Kite
Kites have been flown for thousands of years for fun and
relaxation. There are three main types of kites; flat kites, bowed
kites, and box kites. The easiest type of kite to make is a flat kite.
This type of kite is also the oldest type. The directions below are
easy to follow — have fun flying your own kite.
To make a kite you need:
1. a green garbage bag
2. about 20 feet of string
3. some tape
4. 2 sticks -- one 36 Inches long and
another 30 inches long
5. ten strips of cloth
6. kite string (this string can be bought at hardware store)
Directions:
1. Make a cross with the two sticks. See the diagram for the
measurements. Tie the two sticks together with some string.
2. Wrap string around the qutside of the sticks.
3. Place the kite frame on one half of a green garbage bag.
4. Fold the edges of the bag over the string and tape them down.
5. Tie a twelve foot tail of string onto the kite. Every twelve Inches
tie a strip of cloth.
6. Attach the flying string to the kite. See the -diagram at right
for detections.

Take part in
read-a-thon
Over 950 `Mystery
Sleuths' in Huron County
are curently "reading for
the needs of others" in
the Multiple Sclerosis
(MS) Society's READ-a-
thon.
Since the cause of MS, a
cripprling disease which
affects the nervous
system of young adults
remains a mystery, the
children participating in
the READ-a-thon become
official MS, "Mystery
Sleuths."
The ten participating
schools were visited by a
society representative
who presented a film
explaining MS and the
reading program during
April 8 -18th. Those
students interested in
participating were given
official kits which contain
pledge ` sheets and
identification cards. The
children then read as
many books as they want
within a four to six week
reading period and obtain
pledges from family,
friends and neighbors.
After receiving their
collection envelopes the
, students collect the
amount pledged by their
sponsors May 18th
through May 25th. The
money raised goes to
fund RMS 'research
projects. There are an
estimated 35,000 MS
patients in Canada.
In addition to im-
proving their reading
skills and helping others,
the young sleuths are also
eligible for prizes which
will be drawn at random.
