Tree program plant 130,000
As a result of a
Reforestation Assistance
Program, the watershed
of the Ausable-Bayfield
Conservation Authority
will be 130,000 trees
richer in 1980.
A total of 130,000
seedlings are being
planted this year, 100,000
of which are being
utilized in Conservation
Area reforestation and
landscaping projects.
The remainder of these
trees are being used by
private landowners for
such purposes as wind-
breaks and hedges to
stem water and wind
erosion. These trees are
provided also by the
Ausable-Bayfield Con-
servation Authority for
plantations ranging from
one to five acres. Thirty-,•
five watershed residents
are also taking ad-
vantage of the Ausable-
Bayfield Conservation
Authority's farm tree
replacement program
which makes larger
nursery stock (3 ft. cedar
and spruce and `six to
eight ft. hardwoods)
available to farmers for
the establishment of
windbreaks.
To accomplish all this
planting, the " Ausable-
Bayfield Conservation
Authority has three

The seedlings are all
from Ministry of Natural
Resources nurseries,
while the larger wind-
break stock are pur-
chased in large quantities
from a private nursery
and sold to private ia-n-
downers at roughly half
the original price.
Landowners wishing to
participate in the
Ausable-Bayfield Con-
servation Authority's
Reforestation Assistance
Program are urged to
order early as there is
already a waiting list for -
1981. Authority Staff is
also available to help
landowners plan and
order trees for wind-
breaks and small plan-•
tations.

ntario in spring-
time is beautiful
when it is not
marred by the scrubby
look of winter's leftover
litter. The thoughtless,
throw -away habits of a
few people can spoil
it for others at a time
when our countryside is
once again ready for full
warm weather enjoyment.
Fortunately, many community -
minded people care about this and want
to help keep Ontario beautiful.
The 19,000 members of the Ontario
Federation of Anglers and Hunters,
for example, assisted by the Ministry
of the Environment, are staging
PITCH IN DAY on Saturday, June 7th.
Anglers and Hunters all over Ontario
are organizing special
environmental PITCH IN
projects to clean-up
litter and junk from
streams, sht relines, rural
roads and trails, picnic
areas and campsites and
other areas which lack
regular litter collection
services.
You can help to fight
pollution all year long.
Start by joining a PITCH IN project
in your area.
Then, PITCH IN to Keep Ontario
Beautiful. We all benefit when you do.
