English language that are used to
describe human emotions. The
words and their meanings are
complete opposites.. One is sweet
and tender the other is loathsome
and mean.
But it's not quite that simple and
I've discovered a strange common
link between the two words. My
discovery had it's beginnings in a
Somewhat mediocre column idea. I
had begun writing about lists, of
things I liked and disliked, but I
soon found that that things I'm fond
of are also the things I despise.
Here, this is a good example.
Take your basic, rich, moist, dark
chocolate cake, I love it. Yet I also
hate the stuff. It makes me fat and
I break out.
Then there's sleeping. I'm sure I
could do a great Rip Van Winkle
impersonation and comfortably
doze of for years and years. But,
you know, I hate going to bed. I'll
prop myself up in front of the
television.... half the-, night,:' with one.
eye open and one half shut. I hate
giving in and hitting the old sack, it
seems such a waste of time.
I like my job, but I can't stand
working. I love- spending money,
but I hatebeing broke.
It's• nice just - to be alone
sometimes, but I hate the thought
of loneliness.
It's a mysterious connection,
something psychologists could
figure out I suppose. The examples
are more than mere coincidence
and there seem to be endless lists.
I hate soppy, mushy romance,
but I watched. Love Story and
cried.
I love. music and dancing, but you
wouldn't catch me doing it in
public.
There's nothing nicer then
hearing birds sing, but I hate it
when they start tuning up at five in
the morning.
Hullet Township students attending
the Central Huron Secondary .School,
the Clinton and District Christian
School and the Mullett Central Public
School was accepted by the board.
Students will all, be bussed into.

I love heariinj from_an old friend
comislaTn That I don't get
enough letters. Perhaps the reason
my mailbox is always -empty is
.because I really .don't like writing
Tetters, just like receiving them.
After years of seemingly unfair
parental pressure I'm enjoying the
freedom of living on my own, but
now I sort of wish mum and dad
were around a little more. It would
be so much easier if mum could
wash my clothes and dad could
keep my car in shape.
I want to be skinny, but I hate
dieting.
I hate violence and crime, but I
squirm with excitment when I
watch a good scary detective
movie.
I don't cope very well when I'm
criticized, but I' find it easy to hand
out judgements on others.
I love compliments, but I don't
like getting them. They make me
blush.
The comparisons between my
likes and dislikes could go on and
oon..., I.. figure that the reason why I
like and dislike manyof the same
things is because I have few firm
convictions.. , •
Not having a strict opinion on
many thoughts does not mean I'm
a disinterested, human. Some
might call me insincere or label me
a traitor because of my see -sawing
attitudes, but in truth my feelings
are the complete opposite.
I spend a lot of time thinking
about things, from chocolate cake
to violence and usually see the pros
and cons in each subject.
Often I end up confused, deciding.
which is wrong and which is right,
which is good and which is not so
good. But I'll remain the way I am.
I'd rather unsteadily sway .back
and forth on the see saw, ahead of
sitting on the ground, passing
perfect "I'm right, you're wrong"
decisions in a closed -minded,
conservative fashion.

Township, Ashfield Township and the.
Seaforth area in the integrated bus
system.
. In the same recommendation to the
board the committee stated that the
board should drop the idea of corn-''
bined bussing for Stanley Township.
(The students involved attend high
school in Clinton and Huron's Cen-
tennial Public School at'Brueefield.)
"We went over every route and no,
matter what we do, we won't save a
mile,", said trustee R.K, Peck. He
explained that the Bayfield River
makes it a more difficult township
than Hull et.
Trustee John Elliot said he could
not accept that part of the recom-
mendation and stated that "if it works
in Hullet, vghy not Stanley? Why not
bus
tlien bus the•high.school students on to
Linton?"
As a result, the board suggested
that the committee look into the
matter again. "'
Another section of the recom-
mendation also came under the
board's questions, but was grudgingly
passed. It stated that "the present
arrangement whereby the Clinton and
District Christian School settles its
financial responsibilities for such
transportation directly with the bus
contractor be continued."
Elliot again protested, arguing that,
"if the Huron County Board of
Education is _going to establish co-
operative bussing, then it should
control the paying of the contractors.,...
Thereshould be no private deals."
This triggered a discussion among
trustees who said that the whole
county should have integrated
bussing now rather than doing a bit at
a time. Trustte Herb Turkheim said
that Kent County Board of Education
controls the bussing for all the schools
• eluding the Christian schools and .
oman Catholic schools. "They save
a lot of dollars."
Trustee John Henderson reminded
him that the separate schools here
"just won't go along with it, so why
not let the Christian school settle their.
bill with the bus contractor without
us?"
"Well, it's time to approach the
separate schools 'again. It will save
everybody money," said_ trustee B.P.
Morin. ,"But we can't do all of this at
once. It's no time to• be rash."
You don't have to be a student to take part in Education
Week or the National Book Festival. For Indstance, Mrs.
Edgar Rathwell of Vanastra is still taking part in the
learning process by researching her family history at the
Clinton Library. Reading is an excellent way to learn
new things and now is a good time for everyone to start

The switch to an automated system
here could leave a gap in weather
information from Sarnia to Wiarton.
The Mount Forest office has been
automated but is also staffed
however, " weather varies between
here and there.
With an automates system in-
formation could be obtained by
calling Toronto, London, Sarnia or
-any other area weather station but the
informati9p may not be up to date or
of ay'benefit to boaters -or aviators.
Goderich council has a plan for a
new airport terminal in the works and
it includes space for a weather office,
What will happen to that is not yet
known.
A group of concerned aviators have
voiced their intention to petition MP
Murray Cardiff to bring pressure on
the Ministry to keep the station open
and staffed to provide current
weather information. Ifthe station is
needed here that appears to be the
route to go.
