TIPS on how to install standard locksets
1 Start by making -sure all measurements will be
made on the side of the door away from the door Jamb.
2 First, draw a horizontal line ort the door 36•' above
the floor - or equal to the height on the other lock sets
in your home.
3. Now, measuring along the first line you drew (step
2.), mark the distance to the centre of the hole you will
need for door knobs. This distance wilt be in your
directions which come with the lock.
4 On the edge o1 the door, and at exactly the same
height you used in step 2, mark the centre of the boll
channel (the distance will by specified in the directions
which come with the lockset).
-5.-- The directions will specify the -diameter of the holes
you will need for the lockset. With these in mind, use a
power drill and a hole saw to cut through the face side
of the door only until the drill bit on the saw breaks
through the surface of the back side of the door. Stop
-cutting and proceed to cut from the back side until the_
holeis completed. This procedure prevents splintering.
6, The next step is to bore out the channel hole using
the recommended diameter chisel bit with a power drill.
Have a helper keep the door steady while you work.- : -
The diameter is specified in the directions.
7. Now• close the door and insert a short pencil in the
channel hole and trace the diameter of the hole on the
door jamb.
8. Use the same chisel bit used in step 7 to make a
hole 1/2" deep in the door Jamb. The channel bolt will
nest in this hole.
9. The next step involves putting the strike plate over
the hole made in step 8. Using a pencil, trace the
strike's pattern on the door jamb and chisel out the
wood so that the surface of the strike is flush with the •
surface of the door jamb.
10. Now you are ready to assemble and mount the
lock in position. See the directions for assembly.
