TIPS on insulation and energy saving
Years ago it was assumed that the thicker the material,
the better the insulation value. However, it's been
argued that this was never a reliable measure for
insulation.
Present day -standards determine an insulation's capa-
bilities from its 'resistance value' (called the 'R' value),
which is the precise measurement of the insulation's
resistance to heat transfer Thus, the higher the 'R'
value, the lower the heat loss
One type of material may be thicker than another, but, if
they have the -same 'R' valtie: they Will p-erfOrrri equally
well Moat -insulating materials will have the,R' value
