Former clerk's wife dies
Mildred Livermore
Mildred Livermore, ,,a
longtime Clinton resident
died in • St. Joseph's
Hospital, London :on
March 20 after a lengthy
illness. She was 66 years
Mrs. Livermore ` was
born lir Toronto ow
January. 31, 1914 to
William and Margaret
Barlow.
In March 1937, she was
married to John Liver-
more in" Goderich. The
couple lived in Clinton
following their marriage
where Mr. Livermore
served for over 20 years
as clerk -treasurer of the
town of Clinton. The
Livermores made their
home a t 111 Mairy Street,
where they raised two
daughters. Mrs. Liver-
more was also a member
of St. Paul's Anglican
Church in Clinton.

the year's operation, but
' reduce as well the prior

the year totalled
$4,953,535. up $402,181
over the previous year.
Included in these ex-
penditures were total
salaries paid ,in 1979 to
teachers, administration

$3,272,444 with fringe
benefits of. $167,797 for a
total of $3,440,241.
Salaries paid ° for in-
struction only (teachers'
salaries) amounted to
$2,914,506 with fringe
benefits of $144,876 for a
total of $3,059,382; which
is up about 10 per cent
over the previous year,

that a number of chemicals seem to
cause a viral, disease in animals. The.
disease that resembles Reye's Syn-
drome'.
One of these compounds appears in
an insecticide that is sprayed in eight
provinces, including Ontario,• as well
as household goods.
But this discovery is by no means
the answer to the problem. The
suspected compound is made up of 22
other chemicals and checking each
one will .require years of tedioug1;,
research and da- end;'. results �or . ,
positive findings are guaranteed.
Still studies must continue and Dr.
Safe pointed out th4t research must
start somewhere and so far studying
the suspected chemicals seems to be
the most promising direction to take..
In the meantime, doctors are
striving to treat the disease to the best
of their knowledge. Dr. Sibbald said.
that medical advances have already
turned the disease's death rate
around and the mgjority of victims
died in the 1960's.
In most cases today, early detection
and proper treatment can save the
young victims. Along with the drug
induced coma, patients with severe

has the flu and doesn't appear to be
responding properly, the family
doctor should be consulted.
It is estimated that there could be
100 cases. of ,Reye's Syndrome in
Canada. this year, and between 350
an 400 cases im'ie U.S.

Funeral services were held at the
Beattie Funeral Home in Clinton on
March 25 with Rev. John- Oestreicher
officiating. Interment followed at the
Clinton.Cemetery..
The pallbearers were David Hat-
field, Siegfrid Klatt, John Finlay, Jim
Finlay, Ron Coleman and Doug
Jones.
