Thew last Tuesday at '1!n, a cloud of doom descended over the • community when ,we saw the tragedy taking place . In our midst. Janet 'Foswalk, an intelligent . and talented young woman, had fought . herr way . through, t a lengthy , illness and. seemed to be enjoying life again before: the house fizre., struck. Our hearts ached for her husband Ho*ard', their daughter Tracy, and Janet's family. We may have lost Howard too, with his sunny smile and his wonderful Bardeen that 'est some of us supplied with peppers and/ dill for' pickling when we had none in our own gardens, He and Tracy have been with hisfamily in the Detroit area, and may find it too painful to - return here to live. They will certainly be missed by their friends and neighbors. A special prayer was offered for them at Sunday's church service; the Bayfield Lioness Club is . donating proceeds of their dance to help them -make a newstart, and a box was set pin the Varna General Store for donations. Our sympathy is ex- tended to the Taylor family, too, in the loss of their .Mother -and gran- dmother, Pearl Erratt. Those who knew her well found her Christian love a comfort and inspiration to those around her: Gor. o and Lorna Johnston, who have sold their it farm to" DougReid,°, a are moving to their new borne in Goderich on Easter weekend. 'They Personals Richard and Kay Cullen of New Zealand, who have been visiting in Bayfield, spent several hours with Bill and Joyce Dowson a week ago. They intend to start farming, and wanted to learn more about raising pigs by observing Bill's operation. Charles and Bernice Reid returned on Saturday from a holiday in Lake Wales, Sarasota and Treasure Island, Florida. Glen and Gladys Chessell of Brantford, formerly of Brucefieid, - and Mr. and Mrs. Stan Sibthorpe of Cromarty called on Bill and Mary !jam in barn fire I1, loss EXETER - Damage has been estimated at around 8100,000 in a fire which ' level led Pa barn in Hay Township, north of Exeter, on March 6. The barn on the farm of Lloyd Campbell was completely engulfed in flames when the Exeter Fire Department arrived. at the scene shortly after Bpm. Fire Chief] Gary Middleton said the blaze apparently started due to a short in the electrical panel box. Twenty dairy cows, one bull and 12 to 14 fat cattle and some machinery were, removed from the barn. Lost in the fire were two cows, one of which had been taken out but - ran back into the barn, 12 calves, eight pigs and seven rabbits. Also destroyed were 2,000 bales of hay, one ton of fertilizer, a large amount of straw, a wagon, a milking machine and $2,000 worth of lumber. will he missed in the church, r where Gordon is a member of the session andLorna is, a valued UCW members and in the community.
