It was pointed out that time is important in the event .of a possible heart attack. The commonest sign of heart attack is sudden death. The fun- ction of the heart could become purposeless and its condition like a bag of worms. Defibrilration is necessary- and -a -heart "read out" on the Life - Pak system essential: Other important commodities such as drugs and airways have a place on the cart also. The Ontario Hospital Association and the Hospital Auxiliaries Association of Ontario are sponsoring - two day seminar, April 22 and 23, to take place at O.H.A. headquarters in Don Mills. The purpose is to provide an opportunity for auxiliaries to look at changes in their auxiliaries and ' thei'n= selves and. to determine their role and continuity of their or anization. There will also be a regional meeting of hospital au?iliariesheld in Stratford April 28, Further-detai.is, will be available at the April meeting.. Membership pins are now available from buying convener Helen Davies at a cost of $4, and Betty BurcLrepprtegl a need for current magazines andpaper- back books. A hairdressing service is functioning every Tuesday at 9:,30 am under the able leadership of Margaret Frisby. Three persons are involved; one hairdresser, one helper, and one floater. Volun- teers who may' be in- terested 'in assisting with this service may contact Mrs. Frisby at 524-6404. Margaret Coventry reported the Gift Shop is operating daily from 2 pm to 4 pm and especially needs volunteers for Saturdays and Sundays. In this connection, crafts convener Gerry Vanden Berg is in- vestigating comnnunity-- nterest in establishing a sewing bee on a. regular basis. Sale tickets to be numbered and to be returned before the May meeting. Helen Davies stated vanishing card parties are still progressing favourably and is hopeful that more hostesses will report in before the June meeting.: Calvinettes supplied Valentine- Tray :favours for patients and First Bayfield Guide Company are preparing St. Patrick's' Day favours. Candy Striper Convener Barb Hicks is preparing to interview four new candidates for this volunteer service. At the present time, three Candy Stripers a day perform volunteer duties after school. The April meeting will be followed by a lun- cheon, the details of which will be supplied by the telephone committee prior to the meeting. Special day of prayer The World Day of Prayer service was held in First Baptist Church in Clinton .on March 7. This year's Women's -Inter- Cllurch " Council of Canada Service was prepared by the Christian women of Thailand on "Responsible Freedom". Mantel, Vanastra Christian Reformed; Mrs. Mel Vanderwal, Varna. native dies suddenly James Turner James Elmer Turner, 68,. RR 1, Varna, passed away suddenly at his home on Sunday, March 2, 1980. Born in Stanley Township on November 26, 1911, he was.the son -of the late Webster Turner and Minerva Stephenson. He married the former Helen Anderson on May 19, 1937 and farmed on the Parr Line until his death. He - was a member of Kippen United Church, where he had been an elder for many years. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons: David of RR 1, Varna and Bill of Bayfield and four daughters: Mrs. Edgar (Ruth) Willert, RR 2, Innisfail, Alberta, Mrs. Gerald (Jean)`' Rathwell, RR 1, Brucefield, Mrs. James (Brenda) Wright, RR 3, Kippen and Janice Turner, RR 5, Stratford. Also surviving is one sister, Mrs. Eileen Consitt, Zurich and 13 grandchildren. He was predeceased by one son Floyd (1966) and one brother Ralph (1978). Funeral service took place , at Bonthron Funeral Home, Hensall on Tuesday, . March 4; 1980 conducted by Rev. Robt. McMullen. Interment was in Bayfield cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert Turner,Tom Consitt, Ralph Stephenson, Gordon Johnston, Wilfred Chute and Bruce McClinchey. Flowerbearers were grandchildren, Gayle Horton, ' Danny Horton, Becky Rathwell and Mavis Turner. Brucefield UCW sale The Brucefield UCW held their regular. meeting on March 4 with' president Beatrice Stoll conducting the meeting, assisted, by the secretary Barbara Moffatt. It, was decided to hold a bake sale at the Old Homestead Camp, near Bayfield on May 17. The Cancer Society Tea is to be held 'in ''the Ontario Street United Church in Clinton on March 28. Mrs. Cecil Bruinsma at the piano . The usherettes were Mrs. Bruce Dupee and Mrs. Edward Anderson. Pianist Was Mrs. John Sutherland and Pastor Edward Anderson closed the service. A short fellowship over coffee was enjoyed by the guests. In the morning a well attended service was held in the chapel at Huron - view at_ 10 a.m. with. Mrs-. Reg Clifford presiding, assisted by Mrs. Edward Grigg, Mrs. Mike Dykstra. Rev. Pick was the guest speaker giving an interesting message on "Prayer". Special music was conducted by the Huronview choir ac- companied by Elsie Henderson at the organ. FRED VAN MAAR Wed in Clinton The Christian Refor- med Church in Clinton was the scene of a pretty winter wedding on February 29 at 3:30 p.m. when Fred Van Maar of R.R. 2 Goderich and Arlene Vanderwal of R.R. 1 Varna were united in marriage. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Van Maar of Holland and the bride is the daughter of -Mr;- and-- -Mrs: --Stan- Vanderwal of R.R. 1 Varna. The Reverend A. Vanden Berg of Clinton officiated at the double ring ceremony. - Music was provided by organist Chris Guetter and soloist, Joanne Dykstra. The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a wedding gown with a key neckline in front and back, high mandarin ' neckline, empire wais"°t, long, floating skirt, ' alcenon lace and long, cathedral train 'attached at the waist and trimmed with matching alcenon lace. A Juliet caplet held a pure silk illusion veil trimmed with matching alcenon lace. Maid of honor was Emmy Nonkes of Lon- don. She . wore a long dress of dusty rose with ` spaghetti straps and meshed jacket cover. Bridesmaids were Grace Van Maar of Goderich, daughter of the groom and Gail Van- derwal of Varna, sister of the bride. They were gowned the same as the maid of honor. Groomsman was Bert Van Maar of Goderich, son of the groom. Guests were ushered into the church by John Vanderwal of Goderich brother of the bride and Lloyd Bakker of Aylmer, brother-in-law of the groom. Ringbea-rers were Anton Van Maar and Martin Van Maar of Goderich, sons of the groom. __ Following- the - wedding, a dinner was held at the White . Carnation in Holm esville. The bride's mother greeted guests' wearinga jade green long dress w'th meshed neckline. For a two week wed- ding trip to Jamaica, the bride changed to a mint green two piece suit with matching blouse. Mr. and Mrs. Van Maar will reside at R.R_...2 Goderich. Prior to her marriage, the bride was feted at showers given by Emmy Nonkes in London and by Mrs, Marion Van Wyk and Mrs. Effie Yeo in Clinton. rngham . The president gave a report of a meeting. concerning a proposed new Senior Citizens apartment building for Clinton. The meeting was attended by represen- tatives from the Town of Clinton ---and from the Townships of Goderich, • Stanley and Hullett. The suggested building would. contain 25 apartments, 15 of Which would rent for approximately $240 per month including utilities, the other 10 would be rent geared to -income. Forms were available to be used as a survey by interested renters. • Anyone wishing more information may contact George Rumball. Following a discussion ° concerning the future of the town hall, the president offered to conduct any interested members on a tour of the hall from basement to belfry on March 10 at 2 p.m. Due to a request by Mrs. Rena Caldwell, the quilting ladies decided to make another quilt for her. Jean Johns was appointed as convenor of a committee to buy all necessary materials and Mrs:-Pex-cy- -Gib bings- -- again offered her home for the work. The Golden Radar Club A will provide any tran- sportation necessary for the 99 -cent movie "'The Ghost and Mr. Chicken" bein. g shown ° by the Day Care Centre at Huron- vievv -auditorium March 12 at 8:30 p.zu.. Phone 482- 7307. The social committee Ed and Ida Godkin, Mary and Muriel •Grigg- took charge for the remainder of the evening. To put everyone in a happy mood, Mary told several jokes. Then Watt Webster played a selection of Irish melodies on his mouthorgan. Then Jirn and Ruth Axtinann . enacted the same scene one year later.. Ruth Axtm.anti led everyone in singing, "The Joy of Being a • Senior Ciltizen". the words for which she had written to the tune of "Calory. Glory Halleluyah". Jim Axt- mann read a poem from a book of poetry, by Robert Serviee. -Elmer Trick entertainied with two lovely piano solos. Several ;games of progressive euchre and ;five, hundred were then enjoyed. The high prizes. for euchre were won by Muriel Jones and Laverne Godkin and the low prizes by Blanche Stephenson and Minlue Ruin -ball, Grace, White had high score for 500 and Edna Stewart the low score.
