The long and short of it is, we
Oant them long! Yves St. Laurent,
Christian Dior and rest of those
guys can stick it, we're not wearing
mini skirts again.
Those designers are trying to
sneak it up on us by shortening
skirt lengths by two or three inches
for the spring season, but rumor
has it that over in Paris, the thigh
revealing creations of the late
1960's are on -their way in (or up).
The trend setting women will
follow the revived style, but for the
most of the skirt wearing sex, the
minis won't be allowed back on the
bodies without a fight.
Men of course think the clothes
dsj4ers have come back to their
s, but what,do they know. The
men's opinion might change if they
had only a few inches of material to
cover their behinds.
Minis are a highly impractical
form of dress, rendering certain
normal body movements im-
possible to the conscientious
woman. One wrong move and the
mini wearing female is suddenly
prey to hundreds of staring male
eyes.
Reaching for something a mere
six inches above your head is a
sheer impossibility when wearing a
mini. As the mini wearer reaches
up to take hold, her skirt un-
doubtedly creeps up to her waist.
Masters of the practice of yoga
could manage the task of reaching
over their heads and at the same
time hold their skirt in place, but
the rest of us either have to keep
everything within reach or grin
and bare it when wearing a mini.
Reaching up is not the only
problem, dropping things while
wearing a mini is far worse. The
result of fumbling fingers can be
abandoned where it lies or the
brave mini wearer can attempt to
ease herself to the floor to pick it
up. There's no bending over you
know, the woman must maneuver
herself to the floor while keeping
all sides covered; If she has any
morals at all. Even then, the most
subtle female may have problems
with this _since mini skirts are
generally close fitting and don't
allow much room for movement
without splitting one of those little
seams.
Then there's falling while
wearing a mini. Need anything else
be said!
Not only do normal movements
suddenly become a horrifying task
for women wearing minis, but
many figures themselves don't
take kindly to the revealing skirts.
Most of us don't have Betty Grabie
legs and knobby knees are not
generally known as the most at-
tractive part of the body.
Women can spend a fortune
buying nylons during a mini craze.
A small run can be hidden under a
below-the-knee skirt but nylons
filled with holes and minis skirts
are about as attractive as a fat
woman in a bikini.
Women can find many major
problems in the mini but few can
see anything wrong in the longer
version of skirts, and so our case
rests.
In all probability, most women
will opt for all- covering pants if
raised hemlines hit the North
American fashion scene.
We just won't give up, or raise
tip!
