Afghanistan was 'already

did the Russians attack?
In the last few, weeks.it
has become more evident
that after seeing the

Iran's revolution

tremelyAgitated over the
possibilities of a. Moslem
rebellion occurring and
another free Islamic
state developing on their
borders.
Right across from Iran
and Afghanistan lies a
huge Russian Moslem
population of some 50
million people. With two
free Islamic stales on
their borders the Soviets
undoubtedly felt that
these Moslems too might
rebel. Indeed, there have

There has been sotne

that there have been

Also, _unlike the North

In my view the Russian
nv
iasion may have had
three xnain purposes;
first„td prevent another
Moslem revolution ,on
tlieir borders, second, to
provide a beginning to a
take-over of the Mid -
Eat, and third to addyet
another country . to .the
sphere and control of the
U.S.S.R.
Finally, if the U.S.S.R.
intends to attack - the
'Middle East, I do not
believe it will happen
soori. The Russians will
wait until interest in the
region has died down and
the fervor of Iran's
revolution has quieted,
And if Russia does
attack, and the U.S.
follows Carter's mandate
to repel it by force, the
decade ahead may. be the
worst the world has ever
seen.
