The World Day of

lady. Project for March
will be a Dutch Auction. A
new member was
welcomed to the unit.
The meeting closed
with prayer and an active
auction was held of
Valentine Box lunches
and the contents enjoyed
by the buyer. Tea served
by the committee.

party on Friday evening,
enough to fill 17 tables.
Ladies' high' prize was

were Jeanette Turner,
Della Slavin, Nettie

Members of the CGIT
of Varna -Goshen had a
toboggan party on Don
Taylor's hill on Sunday
afternoon, then warmed
up with brownies and hot
chocolate at the church.

Roberts and children ' of
Minaki have been on
holidays and spent a few
days with Tom and Dale
Leppington and `family.
They visited with other
friends in the area while
they were here.

The Stanley Township
skating carnival will be
held a week from Sunday
afternoon, on March 2nd
at 2 p.m. at the Varna
rink. There will be prizes
and a broomball game. A
lunch booth will be open
in the hall beside the rink.

50 years
for Mellis'
Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred
Mellis of Kippn
celebrated their 50th
wedding anniversary last
week with an open house
attheir home.
Mrs. Mellis is the
former Mary Ellen
Gibson of Wroxeter and
Mr. Me Ills, who was born
and raisedin Kippen, was
the village blacksmith
�"'until his retirement in
1972.
The coolie were
married on Feb. 12, 1930
in the Gorrie `manse and
left by train__ after the
ceremony •for a
honeymoon in Detroit.
Their bridal attendants
were Mrs. McGillvray,
the former Mary -Gibson, -
who was at the" open
house Tuesday and Mrs.
Meills' brother, the late
Jack Gibson.
Mrs. Mellis said shortly
after her marriage, in the
spring of 1930, work
star ted on paving Hwy. 4
which ruris ... right past
their .front door. In the 50
years ' since their
marriage, the couple
have seen Kyles store
, close and the closing of a
-,restaurant, pool hall and
dance hall, once a
popular meeting place in
the village, which was
• owned by Cliff Watson.
When asked the secret
of their .marriage, Mrs.
Mellls said, "hard work, I
guess" and added with a
laugh, "for hirci, not for
me,"
