Dear Editor:
We enjoy many
features , of your
newspaper, but I am
wondering d when you
are researching for •
"remembering our past"
colunn YOU- might find
mention of the birth, of my
.mother 100 years ago? I
'am aware that ' they did.
nbt ' always record birth
notices in the newspaper
of -what' time. However, if
you should locate it, I will
giad to send ap-
propriate doliiiitToiy
towards the expense of a
dup1tatei fjame,
Born: Winnifred
Evelyn Goodwin.- March
25, •1$130 o.n Maitland
Concession of Goderich
Township to Alfred Henry
Goodwin and his wife
Helen Louise Goodwin.
A neighbours- Mr.
Charles 'White
went On horseback over
the muddy roads to
Clinton to get the at-
tending physician kind
returned with him for the.
delivery out there in the
country,
In later years, the
Goodwin family moved
info " Clinton where,
among other duties Mrs.
Goodwin was a successful
nurse for typhoid cases
which were common at
that time. •
My mother married
Samuel MacMath in 1912
and moved to a farm on
the Fourth Concession of
Goderich Township. I
remember, as a child,
accompanying my.
mother downto the
mailbox and her disap;
pointnient when "the
paper" (Clinton News
Record) did not arrive
when expected. I am
disap.ppinted, myself,
when it is late now, I must
admit.
After my parents
passed away, my
husband gave me the
Clinton News Record as a
birthday gift, I attended
Clinton Collegiate
Institute from 1927 - 1932
so have many fond
memories of the area..
I will call in at your
office sometime and
perhaps I may look at the
local newspaper of early
April 1880 -it would be.the
Clinton New Era, I
believe.
Yours sincerely,
Helen (MacMath)
