Huronview residents managed a shopping trip to Stratford on Friday, January 18 before the first real fall of snow, Eber Lewis, Bill Hutchings, Mrs.. Mary Ross and Mrs. Grace Peck, along with ' staff members left Huronview in the morning, did some shopping at the plaza and had lunch out at "Mothers". Residents gathered in the Normal Care sitting room last Monday af- ternoon to .hear Elsie Henderson, Norm Speir and Cecil Skinner play for Old Tyme Music. There Well known ladies die Nellie F. ?owell A well-known Tuckersmith .native, Nellie F. Powell of 170 Raglan Street in Clinton died on January 23 -after a lengthy illness. Shewas which she received her B.A. degree. She was a teacher for 17 year's, and on October 9, 1948, married rNeville Forbes in the Brucefield United Church -.Manse. He_ —80 -years -old: predeceasedher-. Mrs. Powell wasborn in Tuckersrnith Township on October 1, 1899, a daughter of the late John and Sarah (Brown) Watkins. • She lived* in Clinton where she at- tended public school. Following her marriage to Wallace Power on November 6; 1921 in St. Paul's Anglican Church in Clinton, the couple lived for a short while in , Seaforth, McKillop and Hullett • Townships, before buying a farm in Tuckersmith Township. They farmed for 38 years and the couple had •° been retired to Clinton for • the past - 12 years. He survives her. Mrs. Powell was a member of St. Paul's for many years. Besides her' husband, she is survived by two sons, John M. Powell of Clinton and William of Mitchell; one daughter, Kathleen Powell of Hamilton; three gran- dchildren; two great-. ,, grandchildren ; one sister, Jessie Glassford of St. Catharines; and one, half sister, Mary Walker of Clinton. The funeral service was held from the Ball Funeral Home in Clinton on January 26, 1960 with Rev. James Eroadfoot officiating. Interment will be in the Clinton Cemetery. Pallbearers were Arthur Powell and Robert Powell of Seaforth, Ted Ryder and James Ryder of Hamilton, William Powell of Mitchell, and John M. Powell of Clinton. 'Flower bearer was George Powell of Seaforth. Laura M. Forbes Mrs. Laura 'M. Forbe;, of RR -1; Clinton died in Clinton, Public Hospital on January 24, 1980. She was 72. She was born in Hullett Township en September 24, 1907, a daughter of the late Mr: and Mrs. William Snell. She attended S.S. No. 5 Hullett Pilbtic School, Clinton High Schaal, Stratford Normal School, and the i •University of Western Ontario, from A member of Lon- desboro United Church; she was . an active member of the Clinton Horticulture Society, the Summerhill Ladies Club," and a delegate to the United Church Presbytery. She was also • , very _,creative with her Viands, doing neddlework, crocheting many tablecloths and afghans. and knitting many ar- ticles. She is survived by three sisters, Norma (Mrs. Fred Boyce) of Brucefield, Marian (Mrs. B a rx L.a.n.gm.ai Windsor, and Ruth (Mrs._,,_. Gordon Keys) of London; and two brothers; Harry and Grant Snell of RR 1. Londesboro. The funeral sewrvice took place froln the Ball Funeral Home in Clinton on January 26, 1980 with Rev. Robert Scott of- ficiating. Interment took place in the Clinton Cemetery. • M�rningGlories The Morning Glories Unit of the Wesley Willis UCW held their January meeting with 21 members present. A short worship service centering on thoughts for the , New Year was presented by Mildred M Adarn. he coming events were announced by president Marg Coven- try. They included the annual presbytery meeting which was held on January 28 at North Street United Church in Goderich. The ncron luncheon will be held on March 27 and the Mor- ning Market.is scheduled for November 1. The Timbrell to speak at VON meeting Dennis Tirnbrell, Minister of Health for the Province of Ontario, will bethe guest speaker at the annuaLn .e.eting of the Perth -Huron -Victorian"' Order of Nurses on Tuesday, March 4 at the Victorian Inn in Strat- ford. The main topics of concentration requested will be community health for Ontario in the 1980s and the role of voluntary agencies in the delivery of health care in Ontario Dinner will be at 7 p.rn.
