Council • passed a
motion approving the
1980 °budget of. 0,.Q011.0r-
the local Business
Improvement Area
(BIA). Of that budget,
$3,000 will be spent on
blueprints; $1,000 for
advertising and
promotion; $5,000 for
initial revitalization with
planters and trees, and
$1,000 for postage and
miscellaneous expenses.
Reeve Royce Macaulay
questionned the fact tht

Clerk . Cam .Proctor
suggested, "They're
(BIA) only suffering
from over enthusiasm. If
they follow the steps laid
out in the act, then they'll
be all right." f

Reeve Macaulay,
however, suggested that
the'IA keep the business

doing. He noted that as a
businessman, it was the
first time that he'd heard
of the $3,000 blueprints:
Council agreed to pass
their budget, a cost `'nihich
will only be placed on the
business tax of store
owners in the BIA area,

No pay hike
for council
MITCHELL -Members of
the Mitchell town council
have decided not to give
themselves a pay in- -
crease for 1980.
An executive com-
mittee report recom-
mended a 10 per cent
increase in the
honorarium paid to
council , members this
year, but council ignored
that suggestion and
decided to remain at the
same pay as they'
received in 1979.
Last year, Mayor
Harold Jordan's
-• honorarium was in"-
creased
n=.creased by 22 per cent
over 1978. His pay went
from $2,350 to $3,000.
° Reeve. Ray Robinson
received a 15 per cent
increase last year, ,with
his honorarium set at,
$2,300.
The other seven
members of council were
given an additional $250
in 1979 over the previous
year, bringing their total
honorariums to $1,800
each, or a 14 per cent
increase. _A
As well, last year
members of councillors
were granted $55 per day
for out-of-town meetings;
$62.60 per day for con-
vention expenses and $35,
for each special Meeting
attended.
