Greta Nediger was in charge of the program, and Daisy Holland and Helen Rathwell gave the worship service. Daisy read from Luke 2 and read some thoughts from Rev. Davidson's editorial and hey own meditation hdping we • can keep Christmas long after the festivities are over. Helen read a suitable poem and offered prayer. Her poem was "Look . Well to this Year." Edna Baker sang two solos "Ave Maria " and a Scottish song - ac- companied by Eleanor Fisher. Greta read from the Mission Magazine an article about Rob Witmer and his Japanese '' wife who are living in Toronto now while Rob is studying Huronview residents enjoy music Don Darrell conducted the Sunday morning service accompanied by Mrs. Elsie Henderson at the organ. The choir sang the anthem Oh It Is Wonderful underthe direction of Mr. Frank Bissett. The sermon topic _, was based, on the theme, "This Can Be the Best Year Yet". A lively time was spent at odd- ti-riu music ' ori Monday- afternoon when Marie Flynn and nine other musicians provided some good_ listening entertainment. George Rumball was master of- ceremonies when the Golden Radar Club entertained at the St.Paul's elect officers The Friendship Guild of St. Paul's Anglican Church met Wednesday, January 16th -for . their annual pot luck supper with.-1:9,.m-ernbers present. The losing team for "Save Pennies" cleaned -- table's and washed the dishes. Annual reports were read and approved and thank -you notes read for Christmas baskets and gifts .sent to sick and shut- ins. Rev. Broadfoot in- stalled the new officers for 1980: president, Mrs. Phyllis Thompson; first vice-president,, Mrs. Allison Lobb; secretary, Carol Edwards; more J1iibiestobgin La Lechers year La Leche League of Belgrave began its first- series of the new year with the number of little ones greater than the number of mothers at- tending the meeting. Mrs. T. Korstanje welcomed the mothers to her home and explained that she would be hostess for .the next three -meetings. Mrs:\J. Casemore was introduced as the new librarian' for the ELL group. The new books will be using a card system. La �Leche (pronounced lay-chay) -comes from the Span -is- i • language and means plentiful milk. This name was suggested for the League -by Dr. White in 1957, the husband of ,W'in. of the founding mothers. The- .;League enjoys giving info•rrriation and encouragement on the art of breastfeeding. Mrs. B. Kerr led the discussion covering, "Benefits of Breast- feeding to Mother and Baby". Many mothers were pleased to hear that babies need no sup- plements while nursing for the first few months. This makes nursing so easy to dQ-._in., a busy household, I was meted that "cow's milk - is for calves" ` —and the recommendations of the Cana..dian Pediatric Society were ' taken into consideration. the mothers were happy to -explain . the. —great joy in mining "their babies and the close bonds formed within the family. The meeting closed with refreshments and a• social hour. Our mistake An error was made in last week's report on the Auxiliary to the Clinton Public Hospital. The .Trillium senior eitizens Club donated $100 to the auxiliary and the Christian Reformed Church in Clinton donated .$300. As well, the Auxiliary has set aside over $2,000 to pay for a portable defibrillator, not $200 as was reported in last week's News -Record. Phyllis moved a vote of thanks to past president Allison Lobb' and the conveners of the Lions' suppers, A short discussion took place concerning programs for the meetings. It was agreed' to answer the roll call at the next meeting .with a suggestion. There will be an exchange di recipes also at th'e - February meeting and repairs to Prayer Books. Plans were 'diseussed for a bus trip to. Toronto and the date was set for Monday, May.5th. Tickets will be solat a later date. It was decided to save pennies again. A draw for a beautiful wall hanging, made by Carol Edwards was won by Daphne Johnston. Webster started the program off with a few selections on a mouth organ, followed'by a solo by Mrs. Van .Damme accompanied by - Mrs, Radford at'the piano. The club acted out a reading called "Somebody's Mother". Elmer Trick entertained th'e residents with some musical selections on the piano. Ken Flett finished the program off by playing his violin. - Happy Birthday was sung to those -celebrating their birthdays and gifts were distributed, Cecil Skinner thanked the Golden Radar Club and cupcakes and tea • were served. We are looking forward to the 23rd of January when the Golden Radar Club is joining us for an afternoon of euchre. Thoughts are with Miss Margaret Mitchell who underwent -surgery-- -this week. ,Wemiss you Margaret and hope you are feeling better soon. We have a special project for Valentine's Day in . Ceramics un- derway, , and any residents who would like to help are invited there are three photo albums distributed on ground north, normal care and activity room; please feel free to look at these. Jean Currie opened the meeting with a poem and the minutes , of the December- meeting were approved and the 1970 treasurer's report ac- cepted. The new chairman Mary Murch then took charge of the meeting and the 1980 envelopes were distributed. • Mary Jamieson reported that 16 home and 18 hospital calls were • made. Social convenors Florence Corrie and Bessie Steepe reported that two 4-H leaders luncheons were catered to on January 11 and 12. A list of recom- mendations from the general executive • 4 meetin : were read and approved and the theme for Mrs. Murch's devotional was, Starting in the New Year. For the mission study the group discussed Rob Witmer's life, .in Japan and Canada, His aunt Adell Jervis. showed pictures and told stories of her visits with Rob and his family. The ladies were en- couraged to, attended the Presbyterial at North Street United Church in Goderich on -January 28 when Rob Witmer will be speakingat the morning session. The members in charge of the February meeting are Mary Sutter, Rita Dales and Helen Davies., :answered' rola call, as did two -f visitors, one of whom, ' Mrs. Elizabeth Medd, joined the Club. Vera Gibbings reported that another quilt has been sold and is marked,. She offered her home for quilting, so it will be set up there and 12 ladies volunteered to go next Tues day to work• on it.
