for a piece of cake and a

James Armstrong
A former councillor on
Clintbn council,. James
Lawrence . Armstrong,
died on Saturday,
December 29, 1979. He.
was 77.
Mr. Armstrong, who
served on Clinton council
from `1365 until 1972,- was
born in Hullett Townnship-
on October 1, 1902,,a son of
the late Eliza'be'th and
Mathew Armstrong, and.
attended school _ in Kin
burn.
A barber by profession,
Mr. Armstrong - 'at . one
time ran a barber shoe in
town, and also cut hair at
'armed services in Brock-
ville, Edmundston, and
CFB Clinton . (now
Vanastra).
A member of Wesley -
Willis - United 'Church in
C-linton, and the Clinton
Legion, Mr-. Armstrong
married the -former Rose
Meadows in Toronto on
August 21, 1940. She
survives him.
Besides his wife, he is
survived by a... brother,
John Armstrong of
Londesboro, and a sister,
Ella Munro of Seaforth.
The funeral service
was held on January 1,
1980" from the Ball
Funeral Home with Rev.
-John Oestreicher. of-
ficiating. Spring in-
terment will be in the

Quackenbush
A. former Clinton
resident, Howard Keith
Quackenbush died at his
home - in . Welland on
December 24. He was in
his 66th year.
Mr. Quackenbush was
born in Wellington,
Ontario on July 12_1913.
He w4 the only son of
ClarenZ and May
Quackenbush.
Mr. Quackenbush spent
his younger years in the
Belleville area and'in 1941
worked in Clinton at the
former radar school. He
then -moved to. Welland
where he worked for the
Atlas Steel Co.: from 1944
until his- ' retirement - in
August 1978. -
Mr. Quackenbush was
marriedto the former
Myrtle Bezzo of Clinton.
His wife died in 1966, but
-Mr. Quackenbush was
survived by ogle son,
William James and a
grand'daughter from
Huntsville. He iv --also
survived by his mother-
in-law Mrs. Lucy Bezzo of
Clinton, sisters-in-law

as telegraph operator. - He served many places
as operator and assistant
agent and worked- in
Clinton during the war
years when the"" radar

Mr. Carter also served as
an agent in 'Brucefield
and Ripley and returned
to Clinton in 1956 from
where he retired 10 years
later and moved to
Lucknow. -

Rest Home administrator,
Joe Risi says that the rest
home . has. madesub-
stantial savings from a
lowered fuel bill because
of the abnormally• mild
weather this winter.
Mr. Risi said that
norm -ally the rest home
gdes through about 4,400
gallons of fuel oil in the
month of December, but
this figure has just about
been halved with the
result being a saving of
over $1,200 in ' heating
costs.
