The Huron County
Board of Education and
its 258 secondary school
teachers settled -on a 1979-
80 . contract Monday
calling for a seven per
cent wage increase for
teachers.
The seven per cent hike
is an across the board
raise for all teachers,
vice -principals' and
principals in the five
county _ high schools.
Coupled with the raises
are new clauses in their

Contrary to a letter
from a developer and
rumors running rampant
in the area, there will be
no nuclear power plant
built in Bayfield.
That's the conclusion
reached this week after
Ontario Hydro officials
and ' Premier William
Davis denied any
knowledge of the plant.
A letter from David
Singer of Landawn
Shopping Ce res Ltd.,
that began ge sting the
rumors .of the impending
plant, was only a well
intentioned ploy, says
Singer.
The letter made it all
the way to the floor of the
legislature and Premier
Davis called the rumors
"totally inaccurate."
Huron County council
has appointed William
Tim Collyer of Napanee,
assistant administrator
for Huronview Home for
the Aged.
The appointment was
made available when
Huronview's ad-
ministrator Chester
Archibald retired and
assistant administrator
Wayne Lester ,took Mr.
Archibald's place.
George Youmatoff of
Bayfield was one of the
winners in the Dorothy
Shoemaker Literary
Award content for 1979.
(December 6) Police and ambulance attendants remove a badly injured Dennis Hallam,
33, of Brucefield from his wrecked car that was in a two car pile-up that killed a 40 -year-
old Goderich woman and badly injured her husband on Friday afternoon. Mr. Hallam
was southbound at the time of the accident about 1:20 p.m. and the other car was nor-
thbound. Both cars were complete wrecks and the woman was pronounced dead at the

Council has some safety
tips for those who survive
Christmas :
-F- Remove tree from
the house as soon as
possible after the
Christmas celebrations.
It could become a fire
hazard.
+ Do not burn tree in
the fireplace.
-f- Make sure children
are using their toys
safely. Has an ap-
propriate storage space
been arranged for the
new gifts? Toys, sports
equipment etc. should be
put in a safe place, out of
the Way.
+ If you have received
sports equipments (skis,
skates, etc.) get into
shape before using them
you will reduce the risks
of accidents.

Society is working to
control other types of

The Energy Board
directed .that Union draw
up new rate schedules
applying the revenue
deficiency to residential
customers; to general
service customers, in-
cluding general rate
commercial and in-
dustrial customers; to
gas transportation ser-
vice, provided primarily
to other utilities; and to a
small volume of non-
trd•
residential air con-
ditioning energy sale .
Subject to the Board's
approval,the increase,
which will apply to
natural gas used on and
after January 1, 1980, will
add approximately $2 to
the average monthly
residential and small
commercial customer's
bill.
This will be an interim
increase and will be
subject to adjustment
when the Board con-
cludes its current full
hearing into the Com-
pany's rates.

seek PC seat

There will be a new
member of parliament
for Huron -Bruce after the
Fe;iruary 18 federal
election, as R.E. Bob
McKinley announced on
Wednesday morning,
December 19, that he
won't seek his sixth term.
The announcement
caught Pro.gressive
Conservative organizors
off guard, as Mr.
McKinley had announced
earlier this week that he
would run again.
"I've looked after the
riding for 14 years and
have run in five elections,
I think . it's time for
someone else he said in
an interview" on CKNX,
Radio.
Mr. McKinley was first
elected to Parliament in
1965, and has been
relected in every election'
since.
Mr. McKinley, who at
one time was party whip
for the PC's when they
were in opposition, was
completely passed over
when Prime Minister Joe
Clark formed his new
cabinet.
The Clinton Public
Hospital will be the
recipient of the John
McLaren (Mac)
Cameron Memorial
The plaque will be
donated to the hospital by
Marguerite and Mike
Plaque.
Falconer of the Ball
Funeral Home in
memory of Mr. Cameron.
Mr. Cameron, a well
known Clinton man, died
on November 7, 1979. He
was a former employee of
the Ball Funeral Home.
The ratepayers of
Tuckersmith Township
will be facing a levy of
five mills on their taxes in
1980 to help pay for the
$250,000 renovations and
the new addition to the
Vanastra Recreation
Centre. This will raise
$20,000. An additional
$48,000 will be removed
from the township's
reserve account if
necessary.
Council also accepted
the tender of Refiinghaus
Contracting Company
Ltd. of Goderich to do the
renovation 4nd con-
struction work at the cost
of $227,480. In addition,
there will be costs of
about $25,000 to pay the
architect's fees and an
undeterm ined amount to
buy new equipment. A
Community Centres
grant will . pay about
$188.,000.

TURKEY BUFFET CASSEROLE
4 ounces medium wide noodles (2 cups)
1 package frozen broccoli spears
3 tbsp. butter or margarine
3 tbsp. flour
1 tsp. salt
1/ tsp. prepared mustard
1/ tsps. pepper
2 cups milk
1 cup 04 lb.) grated cheese
2 cups cut up turkey
1/2 cup slivered toasted almonds
Cook noodles in boiling salted water until
tender. Drain. Cook broccoli as labeldirects
until_,just tender. Drain.
Dice broccoli stems, but leave flowerets whole.
"Meanwhile, in saucepan over low heat, melt
butter, stir in flour, salt, mustard, pepper and
milk. Cook, stirring constantly until thick and
smooth.
Remove from heat and stir in cheese until
melted. In greased shallow casserole arrange
noodles, broccoli flowerets on top, pressing them
lightly into sauce. Sprinkle with almonds.
Bake, uncovered; at 350 degrees for 15 minutes
or until bubbling hot. Yield: 4-6 servings.

d'illingcrew in Goderich Township, who have sunk a hole
near the Middleton corners, would say they were working
for Shell Oil, a company that doesn't sell water. The men,
from Shaw Drilling of Florence, have been at the site for
two weeks, and the 10 -inch well is expected to go down
