February 22, 1979
An unpretedented cold
snap finally abated in
Huron County and much
on the northwestern half

Tuesday, but not before it
left behind a legacy of
broken records, ice
covered lakes, frozen
pipes, unstartable cars

Wind storm hits
April 11, 1979
A spring storm, con-
sidered the worst .of the
entire . 1978-79 winter,
blasted the area late last
week,knocking out
hydro, blowing ibver
barns, uprooting trees,
and starting at least three
fires. No one was
seriously injured or
killed, however.
The intense storm
swept in off Lake Huron
last Thursday night with
winds that peaked at
hurricane force of 75
miles an hour early
Friday morning with
some gusts reported at
near 80 mph.
The wind knocked over
five hydro poles in

down some large voltage
wires and Clinton area
Hydro manager Walter
Palmer, said that trees
had knocked down hydro

If you were asleep
during Monday's eclipse,
you didn't miss much, as
locally, the phenomenon
was a disaster because of
heavy cloud cover.
However, there was
excellent coverage on TV
and many saw what has
been described as one of
the best eclipses in
decades via the CBC. The
students were kept in
school over the noon -hour
and turned the occasion
into a bit of a party. Next
eclipse: 2017.
It may seem an oddity,
but just as predicted by
Clinton ' PUC manager
Gus Boussey last week, a
spring-like thaw caused
five separate water main
breaks on Friday and a
further 22 frozen water
services to homes and
businesses.

plan nor the figures are
being released to the
public, Clinton council
has approved in principle
the proposed plan for the
town hall 'restoration as
prepared by the ar-
chitects Hill and Borgal
from Goderich.
Little discussion -on the
issue was brought out at
