The Collegiate Institute Board of'1'rus-
tees, St, Marys, expended $5,455.84 dur-
ing the year of 1887. This amount in-
cluded the building of a gymnasium, as
required by Government ; but the sum
will be little it any less this year, as a

some repairs aro required.
There is no prospect of a settlement
between Messrs. Kidd, of Dublin, and
their creditors. .Che former offered 50c
on the $, at 18 months, with good se-
curity, but the latter would not take
less than 60 c. The stock is now to be
jobbed off, and the chattels come under
the auctioneer's hammer on the 27th
inst. Mr. Geo. Kidd talks of going to
British Columbia.
John Wilson, of Attwood, had a narrow
eacape from drowning on Wednesday of
last week. Ile went to water his team at
a hole in the Maitland river, when the
ice gave way and he went down. In his
frantic efforts to get out he dislocated
his arm, and only for the presence of
'mind of a lad who naught him by the
clothing hewould have been taken under.
Mr. John Kerr, of Crediton, met with
a serious accident the other day, whtoh
will probably ]ay him up for a few
weeks. While constructing a bridge
across the stream which runs through
his farm, the spite driver fell upon him
and crushed several ribs and otherwise
injuring him. His son also received a
blow on the head which rendered him
unconscious for a short time.

McGillivray, lost his life last Thursday
morning at Sherry station, on the Wis-
consln Con fret Railroad; Ele was em-
ployed on the above road as a brakes -
man, and while jumping on board his
train after it was in motion missed his
footing and was thrown under' the
wheels, which passed over his body, kil-
ling him instantly. His remains were
brought Home by one of his 3onrrarles
and were interred in the Nairn, ceme-
tery on Monday, Mr, McEwen was 30
years o1' aue, and was much esteemed by
all who knew him.
