Helpful Hints
When baking fresh or
canned peaches or other
fruits, use sweet -pickle
juice for variety.
, Use only half as much
butter required for
seasoning vegetables if
you brown the butter
'first. Browning brings out
• its flavour.
Avoid overboiling or
constant stirring when
cooking noodles by
bringing the required
amount of water to a boil,
then add noodles. Turn
off the heat, cover and let
stand for 20 minutes.
Drain. Noodles will be
perfectly cooked and
won't stick to the pan.
Put cooked cereal into
empty juice cans and put
in the frig. When desired,
cut into 1/4" slices and fry.
Serve with butter and
syrup.

Environmental
Rights Bill
introduced
'Liberal Leader Stuart
Smith is 'introducing a
Private Member's Bill
Which amounts to an
environmental rights bill.
The proposed
legislation would permit
citizens to go to the
Supreme Court of Ontario
to protect their en-
vironment. People could
take action to safeguard
the environment without
"first having to prove
that .they themselves
have been personally
damaged or injured'''.
Stuart Smith stated, in
connection with the bill,
that reform of existing
legislation is • long
overdue, largely because
there have been
numerous violations of
environmental laws. He
cited mercury con-
tainination of tile
English-Wabigoon River
system in northwestern
Ontario and Lake St.
Clair, and stated that
sulphur dioxide
emissions continue to
pollute the air and
thousands of lakes and
streams.

Plan ahead for Christmas dinner
Christtnas is ap-
proaching quickly and
many people have started•
to do their Christmas
shopping. Nwv is also a
good time to .start
organizing the -Christmas
dinner, say the food
specialists at the Ontario
Ministry of Agriculture
and Food. If you start
planning now, before the
rush, dinner will be more
enjoyable and easier to
prepare.
Start by making up the
menu. Prepare ndw
anything that can be
stored in the freezer. For
example, bread, quick
breads, Christmas
cookies, pastriesand
cakes can be stored in the
freezq from now until
Christmas.
Next, you can start to
buy the groceries. If
you're planning to serve
turkey, beef or pork,
consider buying it soon
Although nobody has reported the signing of oil leases on their property in
Clinton, the drilling rigs are getting closer and closer to town:JAst week the
drillers, set up shop on the second of Stanley, just down from the Vanastra
Corner and Highway 4, but So far no word on a find. (News -Record photo)
and freezing it until
Christmas. If the meat
you want to serve is
particularly large or a
special cut, it is wise to.
order it well in advance.
Buy non-perishable
foods soon too. Buy a few
items such as cranberry
sauce or canned fruit,
vegetables and juices
each . shopping trip. It
makes good sense. These
products can be con-
veniently put away on the
pantry shelf and it's
easier to do shopping bit
by bit instead of all at
once near Christmas.
Work out at least a
rough schedule for
Christmas day itself. You
dbn't want to spend all
day in the kitchen. A
schedule will help to
make the best use of your
time and leave you free to
enjoy the day with fafnily
and friends.
