(News -Record photo) Should get grants for hall By Audrey Middleton The regular monthly recreation meeting for Goderich township was held at Holmesville on Wednesday, November 21. Council members were also in attendance as was architect Brian Garratt, who presented his continued plans for the township hall. He had met with a kitchen equipment sub committee during the month to cover the more intensified planning of that area. They w,ere not able to submit an itemized report pending notification of some equipment companies. . However, Mr. Garratt was able to go o-ve'rtire several plans of the hall, .in finer detail, providing as .well an itemized room finish schedule. He promised to have the plans prepared for publication in the paper - soon! Township reeve, Grant Stirling, presented a report of a telephone communication with the ministry of culture and recreation, made by township clerk, R.E. Thompson. Some time ago, Mr. Thompson, on behalf of the township, had phoned the Ministry to enquire as to the - township's eligibility for acquiring the Wintario grant. He was cautioned to wait five weeks for a definite answer. Since it was now eight weeks past, and still no reply, Mr. Thompson felt obliged 'to make enquires again. `Mr. Thompson reported that Al Sinclair, our liaison spokesman with the ministry of culture and recreation, was not in his office. A repreentative there assured Mr. - Thompson that the township was eligible, and, although we hadn't received any written confirmation of the grant, we should send down our plans, expected specific costs, a break- down of confirmed prices on the faith that a grant will be allowed. In other words, the architect summed it up by suggesting that he and the township council let the government office know exactly what has occurred so far and where the plans are at the moment. So it was decided that treas., R.E. Thompson and architect Brian Garratt should submit a report. In other recreation business, chafrman, Gerry Ginn, reported that stonechips had been laid on the softball infield,. Dale Pumps is expected to hook up the water line to the weigh scales building. Also he reported that steel fence posts were still on order. After -some discussion Doug Yeo made a motion that a sub -committee made up of Bey Orr, Walter Mclllwain and Gerry Ginn investigate prices of new and used steel pipes for the ball park. Then with council's approval, purchase the pipes upon which they decide. This seconded by Marilyn Forbes. Three letters were received from the Happy Hearts Round Dancers, Clinton 'Figure Skating Club and Lake Huron Zone Recreation Association Alice Porter and Bev. Orr are in charee of the township Christmas dance on December 15 at the White Carnation. Anyone wanting tickets please pick them up from any rec or council member as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Bev Orr volunteered to make arrangements for bands for the two other township dances. (Since then confirmation has been made, February 2 with Bluewater Playboys and March 8 with Country Companions. With regard to the estate planning program discussed• at former meetings, Gerry Ginn said he would make some arrangements to hold it in the new year. Grant Sterling suggested that now that ice Will again be available in the new Bayfield arena a hockey program could be provided as before. Doug Yeo offered to make initial arrangements.
