(News -Record photo) Clinton Legion remembers comrades By Rene Brochu Our Remembrance Day•Services took place in our auditorium at 9:30 a.m. Sunday morning with Reverend ` Retired Major George Youmatoff conducting the service. The pianist duties were carried out by Laura Radford. Our auditorium was filled to capacity with Brownies, Guides, Cubs and Scouts from the Clinton and. Vanastra area, as well as our membership and ladies auxiliary. with in- sufficient space to stand. It was the largest at- tendance experienced for many a year for this annual event. The parade to the Cenotaph was under the direction of parade Marshall John Lawson, again the best attendance for many a year. The parade was headed by our pipe band followed by our VC in honor of Cple. Minor carried by Comrade John Deeves, followed by our color party and branch officers and members. Bringing up the rear of our parade were Brownies, Guides, Cubs and Scouts and their leaders. The provincial wreath was laid by Comrade Ephram • Snell, first World War Veteran; Legion Wreath and Ladies' Auxiliary Wreath by Presidents Comrades Slim Lacroix and Annie Sallows; Town of Clinton Wreath by Mayor Harold Lobb, followed by many. wreaths provided by local organizations and schools in our area. The Honor Roll" for the First World War was read by Comrade • Bill Counter, and the 2nd World War Roll of Honor was read by Comrade BobCampbell. The • Lasa post and Reveille were played by Trumpeter John Wise, and the Lament was played by Pipe Major Len McGregor. The Service at the Cenotaph was conducted by Rev. You m atoff. The salute on returning to our Branch.. was taken by President Slirn Lacroix accompanied by three past presidents and zone commanders Doug Andrews, Bill Chambers and George Campbell. As the parade broke off a group of 25 veterans assembled at the Veterans' Plot where a short memorial service was again conducted by Reverend' Youmatoff, and the wreath was laid by Comrade John Deeves. .Many thanks to our associate members for taking over all the work details on Remembrance Day especially Steve Maguire, Dave Henley, and Rosemary and Don Armstrong. Our Ladies Auxiliary members were again "Johnny -on -the - spot" providing our chilled parade members with a dinner. Our thanks also to Pete's TV for providing us with the PA System Last Thursday evening our Branch paid tribute 'to one of our faithful members, MacCameron, who passed away early Wednesday morning. The Chapel at • the Ball Funeral Home was filled to capacity with our Branch members and Ladies Auxiliary. Our Padre, James Broadfoot, led us in prayers of remembrance and thanksgiving for our much loved Comrade. Our Ladies Auxiliary was again active as they provided the family and friends of our Comrade Mac to a lunch in our auditorium at which well over 100 were in at- tendance. Last Saturday, our branch entertainment chairman, John Stevely and his committee hosted a Remembrance Eve Dance and social. gathering. We were treated to Comrade John's record selections, as well as a talented trio of Seamus Doherty, Eugene Bradley and Barry Stevens who provided us with ex- cellence in en- tertainment. Last Wednesday evening our Poppy Chairman Comrade George Rumball and his ward committee mem- bers conducted an especially successful Poppy • Drive.
