Funds for the program which is administered by the township under the shoreline) protection act, come from the province. Property owners who take advantage of the program have 20 years to pay back the funds borrowed at eight percent interest. Varna girl married By Mary Chessell A pretty wedding was held in. Varna church on Saturday, when Karen Webster was married to Bill Harmon. Rev. Wilena Brown officiated at the ceremony. Women in the ministry aren't all that common even yet, so it's an unusual coincidence that Karen was also baptized by a woman, Rev. Reba Hurn in the .same church. We wish to express sympathy of the com- munity to Wayne and Joan Be.ierling in the sudden pasing of his mother. On Sunday an open house will be held at the Manse from 2 - 4 in the afternoon and 7 - 9 in the evening. Everyone is invited to come and see the improvements that have been made and to have a social time 'with each other. Local trappers at workshop The best way to skin an animal without shaving all the profits was demonstrated to more than 70 local trappers attending a natural resources ministry workshop Sunday. A representative from the Hudson's Bay Co., one of the largest fur auc- tioneers in North America, outlined what his firm looks for in grading pelts to the trappers, crowded into the Hullett Township maintenance . building located northeast of here. The trappers watched demonstrations onj skinning, stretching and boarding of pelts. There also were displays of traps. There are about 500 trappers in the local ministry district, which includes the counties of Huron, Perth and parts of Bruce. Blake Evans, a ministry spokesman from Wingham, credits .skyrocketing fur prices and . the uncertain national economy for the increasing interest in trapping. "Guys are taking to trapping when they are laid off from other jobs." Many areas have put a limit on the numberof trappers they license and Evans said some type of limitation is being con- sidered in this area. The influx of beaver from the north has prompted the ministry to' encourage trapping of the animals. Trappers were offered an everage of $40 a pelt this year, a 50 -per- cent . increase from the previous season, and prices are expected to remain about the same in 1980. Don Collin, assistant sales manager for 14iidson's gay Cd., Said that while red fox and raccoon prices will likely decrease about 10 per . cent in 1980, most fur prices are expected to ir'ettiain at the 1979 level b .ii.ht 'r i>creaRe 1 n
