A former schoolteacher in the village, she was both reliable and energetic in any endeavour which she undertook. The News -Record was particularly indebted to Vina for the research she accomplished for the Bayfield Centennial edition working along with Mrs. Ethel Poth and Mrs. Milvena Erickson and others. It was always refreshing to have Vina and Ethel spend a .day here at the office delving through our old files. All school age children are invited to follow Dennis Lee's advice and "wiggle to the" library. Not only does November 17, 1979 mark the beginning of the nation-wide Children's Book Festival, but , it marks the beginning of the country -wide "Great Canadian Book Character Contest". This contest, in which children are asked to draw their interpretation of a character from a Canadian children's book, is open to all "boys and girls in Huron County aged 6-12. The two win- ners' entries from each library will be displayed in the Suncoast Mall in Goderich during the National Book Festival in May, and Clinton's winners will receive book prizes. The contest deadline is December 15, 1979, and entry , forms may be picked up at the library. • Dairy crown Five girls will be competing for the title of Huron County Dairy Princess at the annual Dairy Princess Ball to be held at the White Car- nation in Holmesville this Friday, November 16th. Scout Rodney Free artIteld , the flag as Ross Hallam, Assistant District Commissioner invested 30 Beavers and 6 leaders into the Boy Scout of Canada movement. After the Beavers repeated the promise, each parent proudly presented their own son with a scarf while Tic Tac the Colony section leader secured it with the Beaver waggle. It was a night for special ceremonies and the Beavers also received their tail to be worn on the back of the hat signifying growth and develop- ment in the colony. Games involving the boys as well as parents preceded a lunch served by Brownies, Tracy St, Louis and Lynn, Feeney and Girl Guides, Joy Cudmore, Roxanna Edwards, Tracy Potter arid Laurie Colquhoun. The Beavers wish to thank the Guides and Brownies and also Evelyn Feeney for donating their time to the colony. CUBS: District Commissioner Walter Thompson visited the Cub Pack ,and handed out Boy Scout calendars for the boys to sell. All proceeds will go towards the Boy Scouts of Canada. The Cubs are presently working to meet the requirements of their star work. Self develop- ment, physical skills and learning about the natural world are just a few requirements for these important badges. SCOUTS: The Scbuts continued on their second week of the gun handling and safety course. Don Jefferson displayed several rifles, explained the different types of §ights! and the four shooting positions, and target scoring. The boys are looking forward to the completion of the course next week and the subsequent campout when they will be able to put their training to use on the target range. • Beavers and Cubs joined the Scouts in the Remembrance Day service at the Legion. Flags were carried by Jason Fleet and Dillon Fremlin, for the Beavers, and Michael Hallam' and Kevin . Marten. Jeff MacLean laid the wreath. Flags for the Scouts were carried by Doug MacLean and Don Taylor and the wreath was laid by Wesley Delve. The proposed new swimming pool in Clinton got an extra bo'ost last week when the Kinette Club made a donation of $500 to the pool fund: Kinette treasurer Betty Dalzell presen_ted the cheque to recreation comtnittee chairman Frank MacDonald.
