Christmas Dance
The Vanastra and
District Lions Club will
beholding a Christmas
Dance on November 23 in
the Vanastra Rec Centre.
Music will be supplied by
• "Joe Overholt". Tickets
• are $10 a couple and are
available from any Lions
member. Price of the
tickets ' include a lunch
afterwards.
Cubs and
Scouts
On Monday November
12, the Vanastra Scout
Troop will welcome two
new members from the
cub pack. Bryan Thomas
and Shannon Mellor will
be flying up to Scouts.
The Vanastra and
District Lioness are
putting on a Teen dance,
on November 16. This is
open to kids ages 12 to 18.
Cost is $2 per person
and music will be sup-
plied by records and
tapes. 1

Tonight at Brownies we
had to play this nature
game. We played games
and weswent in the room
and we remember the
answer about Lord and
Lady Baden Powell. We
are all done the brownie

On Friday,,Ngvember 9
we will be having a short
Remembrance Day
assembly in the gym.
On Sunday, November
11 Penny Lewis and
Bryan Thomas will place
our school wreath at
Clinton Cenotaph as part
of the Remembrance Day
service.
'Bazaar. closer
Dec. 1 is the date for the
Christmas Bazaar
sponsored by the Group
Parent committee. The
Brownies, . Cubs, Guides
and Scouts will have
tables of crafts, along
with Day Care and the
Resource Centre. Mrs.
Gloria Allaway will also
have a special table of
her homemade quilts.
The Lioness Club will
have a special. -kiddies
corner where they can
purchase a gift for mom.

Mini iTeens have
changed their meeting
night. They are now
meeting on Wednesdays
at 3:30 p.m. until 5 p.m.
This club is open to kids 7-
11 and is held in the
Vanastra Resource
Centre, Building A unit 4
of the townhouses.

• The Vanastra and
District Lioness Club
held their regular dinner
meeting in the Vanastra
Recreation Centre on
Thursday November 1.
The meal was pot luck
and very delicious.
Ed Kincaid from leader
dogs was our guest
speaker for the evening.
He talked to us on the
leader dog school in
Rochester Michigan. He
also talked about
P.R.I.D.E.. This means
productive rehabilitation
and independant
development thru em-
ployment. He is director
for this industry, which is
located in 'London. They
,employ the handicapped
and make sych things as
the Easter bunny canes
and Santa Claus canes
that our Lions Club have
been selling last year and
this year.
He is

formative and enjoyable
-speaker. The Lioness
members thoroughly
enjoyed his talk., 1Viern-

at the Rec. Centre at 10

3/ cup butter or shor-
tening
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs well beaten
2 cups all-purpose flout-
]
low1 tsp. baking powder
r/ tsp. baking soda
1 cup raisins
'1, , cup ,green ,and regi,
cherries, cut in flour
1,2' cup mixed peel
Mix putter and sugar
and cream well. Add eggs
and beat together.
Combine flour, hakin
ig
powder, baking soda and
fruit. Add to first mix-
ture. Drop by teaspoonful
on buttered baking sheet.
Bake at 350 degrees for 10
minutes.

1 Ib. pitted dates
1-3 oz. pkg. pecans or
walnuts
r/,t cup butter
3A, cup medium brown
sugar
Legg
11/r cups sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2' tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 cup sour cream
Stuff dates with nut
halves. Cream butter and
sugar until light. Beat in
egg. Sift dry ingredients.
Add alternately with sour
cream to creamed
mixture. Stair in dates.
Drop onto greased cookie
sheet. (Allow 1 date per
cookie). Bake at "400
degrees for 8 to 10

On Sunday Novernber 4
at the Vanastra Christian
Church welcome service
was held for the new
minister Rev. Peter
Mantel, and his family.
The church was filled
with well wishes from the
community and
surrounding areas.
Several delegates from
other churches including
the Clinton Catholic
Church, Clinton Christian
Reformed Church, The
Church of God from
Goderich, the Goderich,
Blyth and Exeter
Christian Reformed
Churches, and the Home
Missions were on hand to
give their greetings and a
selection of hymns was
beautifully sung by the
members of the Clinton
Christian Reformed
Church choir.
Rev. Mantel's first
sermon at Vanastra
Christian Church was
"The Amazing Gospel of
Christ" and his Bible
reading was taken from
Romans Chapter 1 's. 8-
17.

younger children of the
congregation were en-
couraged to attend
Sunday School in a
separate part of the
Church, which they
seemed to thoroughly
enjoy.
