An experiment in corn production by Agrico Fer-
tilizers ofBrucefieldproved that even in a year of
not the best weather, excellent corn crops can be
grown in Huron County. A 2.4 acre test plot grown
by Dean Aldwinckle on the A.R. Hill farm south of
Brucefield yielded an outstanding 151.58 bushels
per acre, dry weight. The corn was planted at a
dense 26,500 plants per acre. Here Bill Chipchase
combines the corn Iate last week.
Paul, Dean's son also hl}d.a yield of 7,677 bushels on
63 measured acres of land near' Seaforth for an
average of 122 bushels.

celebration, "Owl" is
holding a special contest
for children, in which
they are asked to draw a
picture and send in 100
words or less about their
favourite - Canadian
person or place. The five
winners' \entries will be
published in "Owl", and
the children will receive
autographed copies of the
book. Two hundred
runners-up- will also
receive prizes. Entries

Doug Carruthers resides at Willert St.
Dashwood, Ont, Doug grew up on a farm in
Mt. Brydges, has an extensive background
in feeding beef cattle. He gained some
experience working for a commission firm at
the Ontario Stockyards, spent the last 5
years working in partnership with his father
buying fat -cattle for the Beef Terminal and
dealing in stocker cattle.
