These veterans are truly a part of Remembrance Day, as well as their fallen comrades who are honored. + + + Mr. Ron Tyndall of RR 3, Clinton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Tyndall,_ Rattenbury Street, Clinton, was presented with his Black Belt in Karate at an impressive ceremony at Victoria Public School, Goderich on the evening of November 3. A reception in his honor followed at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Brennan, Goderich, who are also members of the Pierson School of Karate in Goderich. Among the award win- ners were Bruce John- stone of Clinton for the Ontario General Con- tractors Award and Brian Johnston of Varna winning the Ontario Institute of Quantity Surveyors Award. +++ The young ladies of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church have formed a new group called The New Dimensions. The first meeting was held November 1, 1979 at the home of Mrs. Rosemary Edwards. An election of officers took place with Mrs. Priscilla MacDonald as president; Mrs. Mary Ann Caldwell, secretary; Mrs, Gwen Johnston, treasurer; Mrs. Darlene Morgan and Mrs. Rosemary Edwards, program conveners; Mrs. Sandy Thompson and Mrs. Barb Guse, lunch conveners and Mrs. Barb Oesch news reporter. Nancy is co-ordinator for the Movie Nights for Senior Citizens held at Huronview auditorium. The movies are held ev,ry second Wednesday of the month starting at 7 p.m. This month's will be on November 14 and features "Ma and Pa Kettle in Waikiki". If any senior citizens require transportation please phone the Huron Day Centre at 482-7943 or Slim Lacroix at 482-7629. Have you ever tried to make a book? It doesn't -take very long and the results are trerhendotis. Your book can be exactly what you want it to he; it can be big•or small, have a lot of pictures or none. and he about anything you want. To make a hook you need: l: something to make the pages with 2. something to write or draw with 3. something to hold the pages together Directions: 1. Get the pages ready. Hunt around in your house for something to write on. Some things you could look for are empty cereal boxes, old envelopes, shirt cardboards, paper bags, or paper. After you find something to *rite on, decide what size you would like your book to be. Cut or rip your pages so they are all the same size. If you don't have any scissors, a good way to neatly rip paper is to fold it, lick the fold, and then carefully tear down the fold. _. '2. Write or draw on the pages. Some things you can use to do this ate pens, pencils, crayons, and paints. A book' can be about anything. Some ideas are -- a story about an.,animal. places that you like to go, a story about your family, your favourite things about winter. There are many different kinds of books. You could write a mystery, an outer space story, a comic hook. or an atlas full of maps. Your book could be about your hobby or favourite subject in School. 3, Attach the pages together. There are a number of ways to keep -pages together so they look like a book. You can glue them, sew them, or punch a hole in them and tie them together with string. She is, .an active member of Blyth United • Church and UCW, and the Women's Institute and Huronview Auxiliary. Aunt "Edie", as she is affectionately called by nieces and nephews, enjoys good health and lives every day to the fullest. Her family came to honor her from Barrie, Cookstown, Guelph, Toronto, Seaforth, Brigden and Sarnia. Among her relatives attending were Roberta Plumsteel and Percy and Jean Livermore from Clinton. With reports of more snow on the way for Huron County, many area residents and farmers are taking advantage of the few remaining nice days, as did Harold Glazier of Clinton wlio helped dig dahlia roots at his sister's home on Monday. (News -Record photo) . BEAVERS SCOUTS CUBS. NEWS...by Mary Freeman. BEAVERS: "Sesame Street" came to the Beaver Hallowe'en party.. Ernie and Bert, two well-known T.V. celebrities personally greeted each boy and passed out treats.. This was 'a dream coine true for many of the Beavers and a big beaver tail slap goes out to these two friendly fellowsi. The headless horseman and the MacDonald hamburger were just two ofthe costumes which made decisions very 'difficult .for the judges. Prizes finally went to Jeff Ryan, Ronnie Ferguson. Cli"ris Hoggarth, Bradley Jewitt, John Hoskin, Patrick Kerrigan and Steven Morley. CUBS: It was a night for celebration as 22 cubs were invested during the investiture ceremony. After repeating the Wolf Cub promise the Akela presented each crab with his tenderpad badge ana necRerchret. food tuck and good hunting to the new mernbers of the Boy Scouts of Canada. Special presentations were made to Graham Bowker, Bryan Lavis, Paul Kerrigan and the cub camp cook, Karl Skov for their much ap- preciated donation of time. The evening was completedwith a film showing the camp -out of 1979. SCOUTS: Gun safety and handling is one of tht. programs for the Scouts. Dori JeffersoW kindly • began the first lesson last Monday evening. The Scouting program' involves a variety of learning skills including Biking; camping, sports' and music. New and exciting meetings are continuously being planned by Scoutmaster Wayne Wigelsworth. Wayne, the Clinton Post- master has had five years' experience in Scouting, two of which have been spent in Clinton. He also holds the position of assistant district commissioner of the northern half of Huron District.
