curlers
start season
By Drusilla Twynham
Super cooking and good
organization by the
special events committee
got the Curling season off
to a great start on Sun-
day. Approximately 60
members attended the
opening breakfast and it
was good to see a number
of new faces in the crowd.
The social atmosphere
gave old and new
members a chance to
become acquainted as
well as to participate in
some fun curling and for
some of those new
members to be among the
winners.
Prizes of one Provin-
cial Lottery ticket per
team were awarded to
the team accumulating
the most points in each
draw but, at the time of
writing, no one has ap-
prised this correspondent
if anyone won the
million! Early draw
winners were: Beecher
Menzies, skip; Margie
Allan, vice; Gerry Lobb,
second and Joanne Lobb,
lead. The second draw
winners were: Roy
Beuerman, skip; Mary
Fotheringham, vice; Ron
Beuerman, second and
Sandy Smithers, lead.
Special mention should
be made of the team
skipped by Dave Beattie
with Shirley Kay, Chuck
Robbins and Irma Pryce
if only to point out that
they did not win
anything!
Curling for turkeyt+
proved a popular event,
organized by Bill Cam-
pbell. Don Tremeer, Bob
Fotheringham, Elsie
Beuerman, Chuck
Robbins and Joan
Beuerman were the hot
shots who carried off the
birds although the Prize
for "Good Shots who
Finish Second" should go
to Marg Fleming whose
deadly accuracy with a
curling stone allowed her
to achieve this distinction
no less than three times!
Better luck next time!
The curling instruction
clinic, held on October
21st, proved to be very
successful with ap-
proXimately 25 new
curlers in attendance.
The ladies and mixed
draws got underway this
week and the men's and
junior curling are set to
start next week.
Don't forget the pot
luck supper this Satur-
day, November 3rd at
6:30 p.m. Music is by
