She was introduced by Lena Nesbitt and thanked by Gay Datema. In other business, it was announced that the first card party will be held on October 26, and every two weeks after that. Mrs. Nesbitt, Florence Cartwright and Jessie Tebbutt will bp in charge of the first party. Sandwiches and cookies will be supplied as refreshments. The meeting was opened in song with Genevieve Allen at the piano and president Marjorie Duizer gave a reading. The September minutes and the financial report were read by Marjorie Anderson. Correspondence included. a thank -you note from Nettie Clark for the 55th wedding anniversary gift. The September guest Berean Unit gathers Leader Helen Lawson welcomed all the members of the UCW Berean Unit to their October 9 meeting with a reading and the roll call was answered by 11 ladies. The minutes of the August meeting were read by the secretary Dora Shobbrook and correspondecne included a letter from the group's foster child. The group was inivted to attend the Blyth UCW meeting on- October 14 and they also received an invitation to attend a meeting in Seaforth on October 17. The ladies were reminded bf the regional meeting • which was scheduled to be held Tuesday night in Varna. Happy Birthday was sung for Addie thinking, Edythe Beacom, Laura Lyon and Dora Shob- brook Marg Henderson, Helen Alexander and Vi Burns will be in charge of the November meeting and Helen Lawson wifl clean the brass in the' church for November. , After- a reading given by \ Mrs. Lawson, the program was conducted by Mrs. Hunking and Margaret Good. A hymn was sung with Hattie Wood at the piano. Mrs. Good gave the Tuckersmith UCW meets The Tuckersmith Unit I of the Brucefield UCW met on October 8 for a Thankoffering meeting and were reminded of several upcoming events. The ladies were told that the beef barbecue was 'scheduled for October 17 and a Tupperware Party will be held on October 25 to which everyone is welcome. The bazaar is set for December 1 and Mrs. Grace Chapman and Mrs. M. Broadfoot are in charge of a miscellaneous sale to be held at the November 12 meeting. Mrs. Doris Sillery was in charge of the nieeting, with help' from Mrs. Jean Henderson in the absence of Mrs. A. Scott. The meeting opened in s9ng with the 12 ladieS present' singing to the accompaniment of Mrs. Ann Broadfoot at the piano. This was followed by the Scripture reading given by Mrs. Henderson. She spoke on being grateful and all there is to be thankful for. The offering was received and dedicated by Mrs. Sillery and a hymn and prayer given by Mrs. Sillery brought the portion of the meeting to a close. The president Mrs. Marjorie Broadfoot chaired the business portion of the meeting and the minutes of the September meeting were read by the secretary Mrs. Sillery., Vina Berry gave the treasurer's report and thank you cards were sent to Mrs. Edgar Allan, Mrs. Wilf Rose, Mrs. Caldwell and John Andrews. For the penny contest the captains are Mrs. V. Ross and Mrs. Berry and the ladies are reminded, "Two pennies a day are the United Way." The members of Group I are to have their pennies handed in by the December meeting. Following the meeting a delicious lunch was served by Mrs. Helen Pepper and Mrs. B. Stoll. speaker, Mrs'. Bess • Fingland, send a note and an invitation was received from the Tiger Dunlop WI with an in- vitation to attend their October 25 meeting at Carlow. The group gave a $50 donation to the Hugh Flynn family, vicitms of a recent house fire and Mrs. Nesbitt reported that the took books have gone to the printers and will be ready for Christmas. , June Fothergill and Dora Shobbrook gave a Scripture and the devotions were taken from a book by Amy Bolding. Contests were con- ducted by Mrs. Hunking and Mrs. Lawson and lunch was served by Mrs. Shobbrook. report on the Huron County Rally at Elimville and Margaret Taylor gave a reading on how parents should treat their children. The draw, donated by Mrs. Duizer, was won by Mrs. Fothergill and lunch was served by Beryle Reid, Joan Middegaal and Hattie Snell. Explorers The United Church Explorer group met on October 11 and opened the meeting with the purpose. Sandy Carter and Darien Hulley did the Explorer Emblem and Cheryl Hulley did the picture. Mrs. John Hoggart told the story and the prayer was given, followed by the offering. Thre group worked on crafts and then played games before the meeting closed. Hullett Happenings Open House On Wednesday, •October 10, there was an open house at Mullett Central School.' The school was open •from 7:30 p.m. until 9:15 p.m. for the students to show their parents their classrooms and to in- troduce them to their, teacher. Band practise was also held on Wednesday for the parents to see the band in action. The new secretary Mrs. Madill is the new secretary for Hullett School because the for- mer secretary, Mrs. Bosman is soon going to have a baby. Mrs. Madill used to be a secretary at Sprucedale 'School in Simcoe for one ydar and now she lives in Clinton. Election for council It was' election week at Hullett Central School from Tuesday, Oct. 2 to Friday, Oct. 6. There was a lot of excitement to find out who would make it for Student's Council. On Friday September 29, Dawn Flynn, Kent Howatt., Billy Jewitt and Shawn Seers were nominated for president. For the place of secretary Laurel Duizer, Sharon Glousher, Debbie Scott and Leanne Thurlow. For the place of Treasurer, Mary Anderson, Lisa Duizer, Susan Gross and Pamela Losereit were nominated. • By Tuesday the walls wereplastered with posters and everyone was wearing buttons for the people they were going to vote for. Speeches were' said on Friday and then the ballots were passed out • to all the students from Grades 5 to 8. Everyone put an x beside the names of the people they thought would do the best jobs. • The outcome of the •election came that same afternoon when the ballots were collected, counted and it was an- nounced that Kent Howatt was elected for president, Leanne Thurlow for, secretary and Mary Anderson for treasurer. We are certain they will all do agood job -for our Students Council. s hold 001e: day The Cubs and Scouts Apple DaY on October 13 has been the most suc- cessful sale in the groups' history in Londesboro. Special thanks is of- fered' to the generous donations of the Hullett resident and to the nine parents who gave their time to assist in the project. • k' The community is reminded that leaders are still needed to assist with the Cub group. The next meeting will be held at the school on Tuesday evening at 7:30. Mrs. Logan, who will celebrate her 96th, birthday next week was one of .the first members of the Huronview and has participated with the group for over 20 years. She, along with some 150 other people took part in the annual afternoon of teA on Tuesday. (News - Record photo) UCW members visit Blyth UCW members Edythe Beacom, Laura Lyon, Vi Burns, Florence Cart- wright and Hattie Wood attended the Blyth UCW Thankoffering meeting on Sunday night. Mr. and Mrs. Don Emmerton, Bruce and Heather of Kincardine visited on Sunday with Mr. and yrs. Vic Stackhouse and family. On Sunday evening, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Stevens of Belgrave visited at the same house. Miss Irene Roblin of Willowdale spent the weekend with Miss Laura Knox and her mother. Mr. Russell Goos was admitted to Clinton hospital on October 10, suffering from pneumonia. Dinner guests on Tuesday evening with Mrs. Beth Knox were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Harris of Sault Ste. Marie and Mrs. Laura Saundercock, Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Shobbrook and Mr. andMrs. Bert Shobbrook. Eleven WI embers were guests of the Seaforth WI on Tuesday night. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lee spent ,Friday night with their daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Stu Mustard and Sheldon of Stratford and spent the weekend with Mrs. Beverly Gall of Toronto. Mr. Emersoq Hesk spent Thanksgiving weekend in London and Strathroy. Visitors on Tuesday and Wednesday with Mr. and Mrs. Bert Shobbrook were his cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Harris of Sault Ste. Marie. Congratuations go to • Mr. and Mrs. Art Airdire on the birth of their son Joseph Arthur on October 12 in the Clinton hospital. United Church news This Sunday, the an- niversary service will be celebrated -and Rev. Scott will conduct the 11 am service. The choir has prepared special music, which will be presented at an 8 pm service, at which Rick Hawley of Auburn will be the guest speaker. Additional music will be provided by the Scotts. Last Sunday, two memorials were given to the church. John Cart- wright asked the congregation to accept a Bible with a gold cover in memory of his father Norman who died on June 21, 1978, and Jim Jamieson offered a Bible in memory of Warren Hulley Whcyzlied on June 28, 1958. Rev. Scott ac- cepted the gifts and followed in praye-r. For the service, the greeters were Emerson Hesk and Bert Shobbrook and the ushers were Mark Mitchell, Ronnie Nesbitt, Steven Bromley and Wayne Hulley. The organist was Mrs. Glen McGregor. The junior teachers for the Sunday School were June Fothergill, Ruthann Penfound and Carol Cartwright. Mrs. Scott sang a solo and Rev.
