BEAVERS SCOUTS CUBS
NEWS...by Mary Freeman
BEAVERS: Everyone
knows beavers build - and
Clinton's "Beavers", the
youngest bracket of
Scouting, hope to build
their newly formed
t. colony into the best ever.
They were off to a good
start with a puppet show,
"Friends of the Forest"
and from the story the
young . Beavers named
their leaders. Several
games were played and
the boys were divided
into lodges,
distinguishable by the
different coloured pat-
ches` worn on the pockets
of their uniforms.
Highlight of the
meeting was the in-
troduction of a very
important fellow, "The
Big Brown Beaver" who
is the colony mascot. To
demonstrate their
gratitude for this gift all
the Beavers joined in a
"tail slap" which was
their way of saying
"thank -you" to Mrs.
Wonetta Holland of RR4
Clinton who handcrafted
the two foot high mascot.
Writer of this column
and leader of the Beaver
colony is Mrs. Mary
Freeman of RR4 Clinton.
Mary, well-known in
Clinton as a full-time
staff member of the Bank
of Montreal, besides
assuming her new role
with the Beavers, also
finds time to teach
Sunday School at Ontario
Street' United Church.
Her two bos, Rodney,.l 1,
and Cory 7, are in Scouts
and Cubs respectively.
CUBS: First of all the
Clinton Cubs and Scouts
wish to say a big "thank -
you" to all who supported
their annt4al Apple Day
campaign of -last Friday
and Saturday.
The first Cub meetings
have been spent in
organizing this year's
very good turnout of 45
Cubs. Now, divided into
groups, they will start on
their work.
SCOUTS: The first few
Scout meetings have been
spent canoeing at Bill
Chowen's pond teaching
the boys the proper way
of handling a ,canoe and
water safety. The Scouts
also have held a cleanup
day at the Huron Fish and
Game Farm in return for
some of the many
campouts planned for
this fall.
Some Scouts were out
at Huronview recently
ushering for the residents
who wished to attend the
Abbott and Costello
movie.
