The washer at the valve seat is worn or the packing around the spindle is worn. Dripping indicates a worn washer. Leaking around the handle indicates worn packing.. To repair, shut off, the water and (1) remove faucet handle; (2) remove decorative bonnet to get at the packing nut; (3) turn wrench counter- . clockwise to remove nut and then ; take out spindle and washer assembly; (4) replace washer and/or packing. Some faucets use plastic 0 -ring seals instead of packing. SAGGING GATES Use a wire and a turnbuckle to square up a sagging -gate. Connect wire to screw eyes as shown. Tighten turn- buckle. Apply adhesive to loose weight to tile Lin* replace tile; app weight to tile Lin* adhesive dries. The same method•can be used if you , intend- to replace a damaged tile; apply heat with a torch or warm iron. THAWING OUT FROZEN PIPES Use a heat lamp, hair dryer, iron or propane Web; 'but always work AWAY FROM an open faucet toward the frozen area, This keeps the steam from being trapped by ice which may burst the pipe.
