There were 15 members present. Lion President Bill Robertson chaired his first meeting. The 'minutes were approved as read by the secretary, Lion Bob Auburn trustees want sister city The S'epteimber meeting of the Auburn Village Trustee Board was held last week in the town hall with the chairman, Warner Andrews, in the chair. The minutes were accepted as read by the clerk, Mrs. Arva Machan. Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock was asked to continue correspondence with Auburn, Michigan and to ask them to accept the friendship of Auburn, Ontario and to become a Sister City. ! Road business was discussed as were plans to renovate the library room and the town hall. Dance with the Wheel'n Dealers While some organizations adopt a slower pace during the summer months, the Clinton Wheel 'N Dealers have been in high step- ping motion for the past few months. The square dance club held many events over the summer, entertaining at various functions in the community and hosting dances for other area clubs. On May 2, the Dealers held their last dance for the season with a large crowd joining in the. circles. A chicken smorgasbord was en- joYed` tby the dancers at the close of the evening. On June 9, a summer dance was held in the Blyth Public School and was well attended by the Clinton club as well as dancers from the Huron - Bruce .Swingers and the Lucknow club. Despite the hot, humid weather, the evening was enjoyed and hamburgers and hot dogs made an excellent lunch. A special celebration was held on August 30 when, the Dealers held a surprise party for two of their longtime members, Edwin and Hattie Woods from Hullett Township. The dance, which took place at Hullett Central School, was held to honor the Woods on their 50th wedding anniversary and many guests attended, including dancers from Lucknow. Along with dancing, some Dealer members entertained the couple with a hilarious mock wedding and Stan Mcllwain read a tribute to the Woods while Ross Merrill presented a gift to the couple. Along with dances, the club took an active part in fairs and special events in the area: For their efforts at the June 2 Clinton Fair parade, the Dealers' float took first prize. On June 30 they helped Auburn celebrate their 125th birthday, and despite the rain on parade day, the club reported that their spirts were not dampened. Some club members" showed their dancing talents in a detnon- stration at the Vanastra Fair on August 17. Members from the Lucknow club joined with the Dealers ' for a weekend of catnping at Point Farms on August 25. A workshop ,was held on Saturday afternoon and other campers joined the 'dancers for an evening of entertainment hi the park's Barn, On Sunday, several attended a church service in the Barn and after Lunch dancers went to the beach. to try heir footwork in the stilland in the water. School from 8:30 to 10:30 pm. • The Dealers. are _ welcoming new members to the club and noted that anyone who would like to become a modern square dancer can come to the Hullett Public School on Monday nights, begin- ning October 5, at 8:30 pm. A baseball committee was formed with Lion Clare Millian as chair- man and Lion Bill Sproul and Lion Al Luna assisting. Plans for next year include the re- seeding of the outfield at the ball diamond and construction of fences and screens. • The correspondence was read and the members voted to donate $50 to the Woodstock Relief Fund. the meeting was ad- journed on motion of Lion Jim Schneider and Lion Bud Chamney. 4-H club starts Canvas and yarn were the topics of discussion at the first meeting of Auburn 2, 4-H club. The meeting was held on September 1 at the home of Mrs. Tom Cun- ningham. It was opened with the 4-H pledge. At this meeting, the election of officers was held. After voting, it was decided that Annette Losereit will be president and Pam Losereit will be vice-president. Marilyn Archambault` • will .. be secretary and Debbie Cunningham will be the press reporter. For this meeting, different types of canvas and yarn were explained and displayed. Each member received their canvas and bound the edges. Their canvas was marked and a colour code was selected, Each member is to purchase their yarn, equip a needlepoint work box and plan .their free choice article for the next meeting. The meeting was closed with the 4-H motto. Lucknow people give help Organizations in Lucknow and West Wawanosh Township 'are some of the concerned people who are helping to aid victims from the recent Woodstock area tornado. The Lucknow Sentinel reported the village's Lions Club held a dance and raised $1,000 for the tornado relief fund. As well, the club was ac ceotine donations until September 13 in order to qualify for the provincial government's assistance . plan. Meanwhile, the West Wawanosh Federation of Agriculture plan to canvass the township to collect money for the relief fund. As well, they are sending volunteer work crews into the Woodstock area to help with the extensive clean up operations. ' Mr. and Mrs. Jim Lawlor of Wallestein visited last Friday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Lawlor. Winner of the Auburn and District Lions Club draw last Wednesday was Bill Hollenbeck of 177 Lighthouse Street, Goderich. The community, is pleased to report that William J. Craig is borne after being a patient in Alexandra Marine and General hospital, Goderich for three weeks. Mrs. Bert Allgri of Agincourt visited fast 4.week with Mrs. Beth Lansing. Mrs. •Gordon Wall of Wingham visited relatives in the village last"Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. George Walker, Mrs. C. Nethery and daughter, Mary Isabel of Belgrave visited Bridal shower held A bridal shower was held for Heather Pat- terson at the home of Mrs. Tom Cunningham last Thursday evening, September 6. Corsages of roses were pinned on Heather, the bride-to-be, Mrs. Virginia Patterson, the bride's mother and Mrs. Joe Verwey, the mother -in- law -to -be, by Janice McClinchey, Anita Hallam and Linda Cunningham. Mrs. Jim Schneider Blyth couple have 50th Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. George Hallam of Blyth who recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
