HomeMy WebLinkAboutClinton News-Record, 1979-09-13, Page 2PAGE 2—CLINTON NEWS -RECORD, RD, THURSDAY, SEPTE1V, ER 14,1979, -The "to strap" or "not to strap" issue was on the Tuesday morning news again this week. This is not in any way offering any solutions - but the word "strap" certainly conjured up memories in, my mind. My very earliest memory was not of that certain instrument of punishment - but rather of my father's hand coming into contact with the place which Nature seemed to designate best able to cushion the blow. The strap came later. I can recall my mother strapping me on the hand with my father's razor. strap and saying at the same time "This is going to hurt me more thanuit hurts you." Years later, with sons of my own, I realized what she meant. And, yes, I was strapped in school too - in grade five - for talking. (Husband, Robert, maintains it had no effect!) On another occasion I had to stand in the corner facing the wall - still for the same sin. Perhaps I'd better stop - it's beginning to sound like a confession column. +++ On a lighter note, rlike this definition of middle and Verna Reid of age by Evan Esar, Saskatoon, former "Middle age - the period Clinton residents. in life when your children + + + leave you one by one, only The Madeleine Lane to return''two by two." • Auxiliary of St. Andrew's + + + Presbyterian Church Recent visitors at the held its first meeting of home of Mr. and Mrs. the fall season‘ Tuesday Cecil Elliott, Clinton, evening, September 11, in were Mr. and Mrs. Dave the ' church hall. Break ins hit Clinton Clinton' police chief Lloyd Westlake is asking people to notify the police if they see or suspect any abnormal activities in the area. .., This plea came from the police following the investigation of two at- tempted, and one suc- cessful, break - in to Clinton businesses this past week. Sometime between September 2 and 3, thieves attempted to gain entry to the Douglas Tea Shoppe on Princess Street, but were un- successful in their at- tempts. It was reported to police that the front lock had been tampered with. On September 8 the rear and front door of J. and J. Pharmacy on Victoria Street had been tampered with, but thieves were un- successful -in an evening break-in attempt. In another incident, thieves entered a shed at Hudie-Wiseway Building Supply Centre and stole a quantity of gasoline. As well, on September 4 Harold's Shell Service on Victoria, Street was broken into, and thieves stole a quantity of cash and cigarettes. Police are still in- vestigating the incidents, but do not believe that they are connected. • "What do you mean, what's this?" little Angie Vanderhaar seems to be asking.
